The One with the Pacifier Clip Tutorial

When Fox was a newborn and he dropped his pacifier Joey the dog would snatch it and destroy it in seconds. He'd chew the rubber right off, eat it, then we'd find it in his #2 a few days later. He ate literally 50 pacifiers before we got smart and splurged on a pacifier clip ($7 for a clip? Expensive investment, but we saved tons in the end cuz we didn't have to buy any more pacifiers). Joey hasn't eaten a pacifier in months. And they lived happily ever after.

Speaking of pacifier clips.

I can't put ribbons and flowers and bows in Fox's hair, I can't put him in skirts and dresses, I can't paint his toenails hot pink (unless I'm Jenna from J.Crew...). But I CAN make him cute ribbon clips to match his outfits! I'll accessorize my boy one way or another!

I should have done this months ago, but there simply aren't enough hours in the day. Here's how I made 'em:

Gather supplies: Assorted ribbons, a clip, scissors, velcro (non-adhesive), sewing machine, thread, pacifier, hot glue gun

For clips for girls you could go all out and string large pretty jewels on yarn, use fancy and decorative ribbon instead of plain solid colors, lace, tulle, sequins, floral fabric, etc. Check out the ones I have for sale in my etsy shop.

Line up the ribbons and iron them flat.

Cut each ribbon to 10" (I should have just done this in the first place before I ironed them. Live and learn!) Fold one end of the ribbon over twice like this.

Then iron the folded end flat.

Repeat the folding and ironing process for the other end of the ribbon.

Trim a piece of velcro to about 3/4". Larger for wider pieces of ribbon, smaller for thinner pieces.

While you're at it, trim a whole bunch of velcro pieces.

Adhere or hot glue a piece of velcro to one end of the ribbon.

Add another piece of velcro to the other ribbon end.

Adhere the opposite piece of velcro about 1/2" away from the first piece of velcro on both ends of the ribbon.

Your ribbon should look like this:

Sew the velcro pieces in place so they'll never ever come off.

All sewn on!

Here's the backside of the ribbon. Don't look too closely, I'm horrible at sewing!

Repeat for the rest of the ribbons.

Trim off the clip from a store-bought pacifier clip (or maybe you have some clips layin' around). I plan to just interchange this one clip on whatever ribbon matches his outfit for the day. Or I might just buy a pack of clips and attach one to each ribbon. We shall see.

Attach the clip to one end of the ribbon and attach a pacifier to the other end.
