The One with Kauai Day One

Sunday, July 10, 2011

The internet has been shotty at best so I haven't been able to blog but my sister has had better luck (and is better at paraphrasing and downsizing her photos) so you can check out the abridged version of our trip on her blog. I won't blame you if you just scroll on through these Kauai posts! They're long, lengthy, and picture-y! But nonetheless, here's what we've been up to on our fabulous vacation.

When you wake up in the morning and this is what you see, you know life is grand!

While Fox was still sleeping Chris and I asked Allie to listen for him and we headed out to the beach to go on a romantic morning walk.
Photobucket
It was like a 10 minute honeymoon!
Photobucket
A perfect sunrise.
Photobucket
Our feet sank so far into the sand we practically made it halfway to China!
Photobucket
Our plan for the day was to drive along the southwest side of the island and see all that we could see. First stop: the Spouting Blowhole. This fun sign greeted us.
Photobucket
There are chickens and roosters EVERYWHERE!
Photobucket
I took a video of the Spouting Blowhole in action.
Stillshots.

Fox won't remember this (or any of this trip, sad), but here's proof he was here!
Photobucket
Aunt Allie and Fox.
Photobucket
Grandma Carolyn and Fox.
Photobucket
It started monsooning so we hightailed it under the covered safety of the tourist trap shops.
Photobucket
Photobucket
We loaded back up in the car and drove along our merry way.
Photobucket
We stopped at a viewpoint. When I think of Hawaii this is what I picture in my mind's eye.
Photobucket
Photobucket
I just want to squeeeeze him!
Photobucket
Our family at this incredible viewpoint.
Photobucket
Chris saw a sign for a swinging bridge in Hanapepe so of course we had to stop.
Photobucket
It was actually quite scary to walk across! Teeter totter!
My cute boys.
Photobucket
Back in the car, Fox fell asleep. Obsessed with his paci much?
Photobucket
Next stop: Shipwreck Beach.
Photobucket
We climbed to the top of that rock and it started to downpour so we ran back to the car.
Photobucket
We went back to the hotel and took a leisurely bath in the pool.
Photobucket
We took a walk further down the beach and I noticed this lady was feeding birds right out of her hand! "Feed the birds, tuppence a bag!"
Photobucket
Next we walked across the street to the shopping center to see what there is to see.
Photobucket
Photobucket
I like these cute baby bags.
Photobucket
As well as these beaded animals.
Photobucket
I was taking a nap during lunch so my tummy was grumbling so I got me a Puka Dog.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
The buns are like rolls with a tube carved out where the hot dog goes in then they squirt a special sauce and a fun variety of relishes like pineapple or coconut and such. It was delicious!
Photobucket
One of my very favorite pictures of Allie and Fox so far. Outside Puka Dogs.
Photobucket
We strolled back to the hotel and I admired some pretty blooming trees.
Photobucket
Photobucket
A huge pretty yellow flower.
Photobucket
In the front of the hotel is a koi pond with ginormous koi.
Photobucket
I love seeing these license plates everywhere. ALOHA is right!
Photobucket
My dad can't sit still for longer than 5 minutes so we packed up and headed out on another adventure. First stop: we tried to get closer to this abandoned sugar cane mill.
Photobucket
There were goats in front bleating for attention.
Photobucket
Which Allie happily provided.
Photobucket
Goats have horizontal slits for irises! Freaky!
Photobucket
Eventually we made our way to a golf course in an attempt to try and get to this lighthouse.
Photobucket
We gaped at the magnificent views and beauty around us.
Photobucket
Photobucket
We tried walking to the lighthouse and seriously had a "LOST" moment traipsing through the jungle.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Alas the trail led to a secluded beach and not the lighthouse so we turned around and met Chris, Fox, and Allie back at the golf course.
Photobucket
Allie jumping and a palm tree growing out of Chris's stomach.
Photobucket
Chillaxing.
Photobucket
Some kind of bugs are eating through these leaves making for a neat lacey pattern.
Photobucket
Photobucket
A wrong turn actually led us to the lighthouse! Success!
Photobucket
After the lighthouse we came back to the hotel, ate Costco pizza for dinner, and went to bed after a fun-filled day!

And you know those cute bags (by Bungalow 360)? I used to have the whale one when we lived in Rhode Island. SO cute! I still have one with green/yellow recycle icons all over it. Those bags are so cool! :-D
