The One with the Pacifier Miracle

Crossing my fingers I don't jinx us by writing about it after only 4 days of success...

If you've read this blog for awhile or scrolled through the pictures you know that Fox is mildly (okay, completely) obsessed with his pacifier. He's been sucking on that thing all day every day since day one. What can I say, he's a sucker :)

Getting a picture of him without a pacifier is a rare and beautiful thing.
His pacifier hasn't bothered me ever, I think I'm the one who needs it more than Fox.

But "Chris the Dentist" has been worried about Fox's teeth for awhile now and vowed that we'd put an end to it as soon as we got back from Oregon. That's now.

It's like Fox sensed that we were going to take it away from him because seriously, he's over it. He's done! On Monday we kept trying to give it to him and he'd chuck it across the room! It's been sitting in his crib ever since and he hasn't touched it. Not during naps, not randomly throughout the day, not when it's time to go to bed. He hasn't pulled my finger and led me into his room to reach in his crib and grab it once. He's played with Jane's pacifier a few times, but always gives it right back when we ask for it.

I'm baffled! Mystified! Astounded! From the boy who couldn't go 2 seconds without it to suddenly not needing it anymore!?!? Maybe he sees that we try to give the baby a pacifier and he doesn't want to be a baby anymore?
Whatever the reason, I'll take it!
Next step: weaning off the bottle...

  2. Is it just me but in that photo it looks like there is a tear? My son was the same and with going cold turkey with my first (she took 45 min to fall asleep for a nap than on) and I was nervous to do it for my second. But it got a tear and he threw it across the room and didn't want it anymore! :> I think poking a whole in it works the same in case he wants it back!

  3. Yay for Fox giving it up on his own! My oldest never did have one (was kind of frustrating for me) and my youngest loved hers for way too long... we finally had to have the 'Soother Fairy' come - when she was ready she put it under her pillow like her older sister did with teeth and in the morning a little stuffy was there for her. Kinda made me sad though as when she had her soother, she cuddled me, grabbed my thumb, snuggles and fell asleep in no time. No soother, much less wanting to cuddle :(

  4. You are so lucky Paige - we had a horrible week of pacifier withdrawal here when the 'pacifier fairy' came and took them from both of my kids (at 2 and 1). My daughter was so addicted she would use 2 at a time! They had to go.

  6. Paige, Don't under estimate a 2 year old :) They are VERY smart and I bet you, he is feeling like a big boy... he sees Jane with it and it's probably helping him not want it as much. That's a great thing! I never had any issues with a pacci because mine did NOT have one. I tried to give it to him once when he was 3 months old and he didn't want it. :) Lucky me :) Right now, I am determined to potty train Edward! He knows what to do but he isn't consistent and it's driving me nuts.

  7. glad to hear it went well. my son was the same way. his was sooo old it fell apart one day, and that was it. he asked for it at bedtime and we said it was broken. "ok" he said, and rolled over and went to sleep. And that was that! And to think of the anxiety I felt thinking about getting rid of it prior to that day! Like you said, pretty sure mommy needed it more ;)
