Shaped Cut File Cards by Elsie Robinson

Monday, May 11, 2020

Hey everyone, it’s Elsie Robinson here! Today I’m sharing how to make shaped cards using cut files. These are so simple to create and they really showcase Paige’s beautiful cut files. I used the Bloom Street collection to create these cards along with the Cupcake, Rainbow, and Hooray cut files.
My first step was to cut the cut files from white cardstock. I sized them all to be roughly 5x7”. Then in the Silhouette Studio I released the compound path of the cut files so I could offset the outline shape of each cut file. This offset shape is the base for the cards, so I cut each shape twice from some thick white cardstock.

I really love backing cut files, so I had a blast creating these cards! I used a mix of 12x12 patterned papers, and the 6x8 Paper Pad so I could include some holographic foil patterns for an extra bit of sparkle.

Once all the cut files were backed, I could assemble the cards. I glued each backed cut file onto one of the offset shapes and I scored the other identical shape along the top edge of the card which created a hinge. I adhered this folded bit onto the card front to create the card mechanism.

Since there is so much pattern and color within each cut file, I didn’t feel like I needed to over embellish these cards. For the rainbow I used a Floral Die Cut and a random mix of alphas from the Puffy Word Stickers. For the Hooray card I added a couple of bumblebee Ephemera Die Cuts, and for the cupcake I used the mini alphas in the 4-Page Sticker Book to spell out "happy birthday".

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re inspired to use Paige’s cut files to create your own shaped cards!
