I also have albums for the other countries I visited, if you're like me and like looking at other people's vacay photos (I really liked your Hawaii ones, by the way! I want to go someday!)Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11060839217325886244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-62161177994614843872011-07-25T09:26:15.882-06:002011-07-25T09:26:15.882-06:00the above comment is from Malm. Here's an explanation of how they got the "bodies". <br /><br />"One of the morbidly fascinating results of the 79 A.D. eruption of Vesuvius is the large number of holes found in the volcanic deposits around Pompeii that represented corpses of people and animals that were buried by the hot ash. The ash lithified before the corpses decayed so that a good mold of the deceased remained. Early in the excavation it was discovered that filling these molds with plaster produced remarkable casts of the victims of the eruption."tomashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14621126756934882926noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-90651565733088200802011-07-25T09:04:28.479-06:002011-07-25T09:04:28.479-06:00I actually have that book (Pompeii), but haven'...I actually have that book (Pompeii), but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Now I'm totally going to give it a go :-) Thanks Paige!! **we saw the travelling Pompeii exhibit at the Minnesota Science Museum - that was just AMAZING!!! Would LOVE to go there in real life.Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01251583991940229494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-78704870085964641172011-07-25T07:55:41.632-06:002011-07-25T07:55:41.632-06:00oooh I am putting that book on my wishlist. The rest of Naples is pretty blah - although Capri and Sorrento are nice. But Pompeii was amazing! (and this is from someone who has seen A LOT of ruins including Rome and Greece.)Megan Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04801970375747269714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-35905963932164119492011-07-25T05:55:41.790-06:002011-07-25T05:55:41.790-06:00This looks like a really interesting book! If you ...This looks like a really interesting book! If you do get to go to Pompeii in person, jump at the chance. It's surreal to see Mt. Vesuvius in person. I have some pictures that are almost exactly like the ones you posted: the first one, and the ones with the dog and people bodies. I've always been fascinated by natural disasters, too - so much so that I made sure to take the Natural Disasters class in college to fill my Integrated Sciences requirement!Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11060839217325886244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-43081368719369794232011-07-25T00:42:20.867-06:002011-07-25T00:42:20.867-06:00So true story.. ever since I learned about Pompeii...So true story.. ever since I learned about Pompeii in elementary school, I have been fascinated by it. I am a history geek at heart. It's like you said, though. My lack of knowledge about it and what happened makes me want to know more! I'm especially fascinated by the people affected, as weird as that is.Kellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06642269008284261746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-32276236952494632912011-07-25T00:12:50.822-06:002011-07-25T00:12:50.822-06:00wait a second. are those real mummies, just left l...wait a second. are those real mummies, just left like that??lyndseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874030015266791171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1020546589990477066.post-88894593242671864052011-07-24T22:17:32.740-06:002011-07-24T22:17:32.740-06:00Glad the book made such an impression on you!
