Snowbaby Layout by Kelly Daye

Saturday, November 23, 2019

Hello friends, it’s Kelly Daye here and I’m sharing my newest layout made with Truly Grateful. With the holiday season nearing, I really wanted to design a layout with Christmas in mind. Every year I look forward to decorating our bookcase with a collection of Snowbabies and faux snow. Another tradition is filling stockings with lots of fun little things. We always open them first and so my first Christmas layout is all about that.
I think this might be my favourite Design Team Project so far. Maybe it’s because I really enjoy decorating the house for Christmas but also, I just love how the colours came together in Paige’s Stuffed Stocking cut file. It took a bit of time to paper back because I used up a lot of tiny bits of pink, melon, and mint leftover from previous projects. Trace, snip, glue, repeat! I think I might have said, “Oh that’s cute” more than a few times lol.

To make the background, I dabbed a bit of complementary watercolour paint onto white cardstock around where I planned to place the stocking. I used Prima - Pastel Dreams watercolors. I didn’t add gesso, but passed a hot iron over the back for a minute or two and that totally flattened out any bumps. Once dry, I glued Paige’s Christmas Tree Background cut file over top. White on white gives the paper a pretty embossed look I like, adding more interest and texture too.

After trimming away a half inch from two sides of the background, I centered and taped it onto pretty green Paper 03. I like how it gives the layout a ‘framed’ look. I used a mix of Puffy Phrase Stickers and Thickers to make my title. For a wee bit of extra glam and sparkle, I machined stitched through ‘Snowbaby’ with gold metallic thread. Finally, I hand stitched a glittering border all around the background using sequins from my stash. It reminded me of a rope of shining lights. Oh, and can’t forget the brilliant puffy stars and dots, they're from the Epoxy Stickers and were just the perfect finishing touch.

Not long now before the house starts to shine! Big thanks for coming by!

Honfleur, France Mini Album

Friday, November 22, 2019

The holiday sales have begun at scrapbook.com! I was sent the Spellbinders Platinum Die Cutting Machine and Wafer Thin Metal Dies Bundle (all bundles are pretty much 50% off during the holidays - WOWEE!) and I created a pennant-shaped mini album using the Heritage collection by Maggie Holmes/Crate Paper to document our day in Honfleur, France.
First, check out the process video so you can see how this mini album came together from start-to-finish:

I began by die cutting the pennants from Heritage patterned papers - two of each size. I lightly adhered the pennants back-to-back and then machine stitched around each pennant using a Brother sewing machine with white Coats & Clark thread and a basic running stitch. Then I punched a hole through the top of each pennant to eventually slide onto a binder ring. For reinforcement and an extra pop of color, I punched 18 hole reinforcers using a Reinforce Hole Punch and glued them to the tops of each pennant, both front and back. Time for photos and embellishments!

I tinkered with not using this tiniest 1st pennant because I couldn't think of what to add to it because it's so small, BUT!, there are lots of teeny tiny embellishments in the Heritage collection that were perfect sized! I should mention: before I began embellishing, I used the PixScan feature with my Silhouette Cameo 3 to have it cut out flowers, leaves, and icons from patterned papers AND I stuck some transparent stickers onto white cardstock and had the machine cut those out too to turn them into die cuts which saved HOURS of fussy cutting!! Reason enough alone to own a Silhouette Cameo 3, just sayin' :) So those blue and green leaves tucked on either side of the gold epoxy heart sticker and the flower on the right side were all cut out using the PixScan feature. I machine stitched white satin pico ribbon to the bottom.

This 2nd tag has a ransom-style title made with the Thickers and clear alpha stickers from the sticker book backed with white cardstock and fussy cut. I machine stitched yellow flower ribbon from the stash to the back bottom edge.

On the back side of the 2nd tag I layered a flower chipboard sticker, gold glitter butterfly embellishment, and sentiment from the sticker book backed with white cardstock and trimmed in two.

The 3rd pennant is still a bit too small to start adding photos of reasonable size so I piled on the embellishments: a house sticker, gold wreath epoxy sticker, vellum wreath die cut, and butterfly. I added brown crocheted ribbon from my stash to the bottom edge.

On the back of the 3rd tag I started adding journaling. I copied the text from our blog post re-cap of our day in Honfleur, France, pasted it into a new document, changed the font to Remington Noiseless at size 7, and then printed it out. I trimmed the journaling into strips and then trimmed them down further to fit the space of the pennant. At the bottom I added a leaf sticker trimmed in two and placed on either side of the hole reinforcer.

4th pennant: Yay, time for photos! I printed my photos at different sizes, mostly 2" square, using Picasa to create collages and got them printed at Costco. Here is the tutorial for how I do this. I wanted to add two photos of Jane so I backed the top photo with a floral paper from the 6x8 paper pad, added washi tape between the photos, and zigzag stitched over the tape to add additional stability. I created a tab trimmed from both ends of a label sticker to the right edge to help make flipping up the photo easier and added a round "XO" chipboard sticker on top. Die cuts and stickers were layered under the photo and I added a bird epoxy sticker as my little nod to Jane absolutely loving birds.

On the back of the 4th pennant there is teal crocheted ribbon stitched across the top and a bunch of layered embellishments in the middle.

The 5th pennant features a 2" square photo of macaroons - when in France! - layered over die cuts and stickers along with ribbon stitched to the bottom. You'll see a theme from here on out: it's all about the clusters and layers + ribbon! Using a single collection ensures everything will match and coordinate perfectly together. Again, I used the Heritage collection by Maggie Holmes/Crate Paper. The colors are so fitting for Honfleur!

Here is the back of the 5th pennant.

The 6th pennant features a purple door - swoon! Fittingly placed onto purple paper :)

This ruler sticker was a fun find because the journaling talks about how the buildings were taxed based on width, not height, hence the super skinny, tall buildings everywhere.

The 7th pennant features one of my favorite photos of the day - an iconic view of Honfleur. It's 3x4" so a bit larger so you can see it better. I strung a charm onto a "Remember" epoxy sticker so it dangles and creates an interactive element.

I always, ALWAYS, have more photos that I want to include than can seemingly fit in my mini albums so pockets are a must. The Heritage collection has a package of cards & envelopes including this vellum pocket. I actually trimmed off a bit of the bottom and re-sewed it closed to make it a little shorter. I backed all of the photos with patterned papers just to spice them up and then tucked them into the pocket. I need to go back and add captions and maybe little stickers/embellishments to the photos. I dressed up the envelope with a butterfly sticker flanked with leaves.

On the second-to-last pennant (so the 8th pennant), I layered lots of tags found throughout the collection and two 2x3" photos. Plus a few other little bits!

On the back I added another favorite photo printed to 4" square and layered embellishment clusters on opposite corners.

The last (9th) pennant includes a family photo and border of embellishments across the bottom.

Here is another look at the six smallest pennants:

The fronts of the 9 pennants:

And the backs:

I would guesstimate this album took about 10 hours to create over the course of a week and I enjoyed every minute of it! I am slowly but surely getting all of our travels documented. Thank you so much for stopping by and be sure to visit scrapbook.com for their daily holiday deals - especially the Spellbinders Platinum Die Cutting Machine and Wafer Thin Metal Dies Bundles which are hugely discounted!

Belgian Waffles Layout by Zsoka Marko

Hello crafty friends, Zsoka Marko stopping by today to share a new layout I've created for the Paige Evans Design Team using the awesome Truly Grateful collection! My Cameo is not working at the moment (ever since the latest software update, go figure) so I had to come up with a layout without a cut file. The obvious choice was using the Floral Die Cuts, quick and easy! And I haven't used them yet so win win!
I arranged the Floral Die Cuts at the top and the bottom of my page. I used the ones with the white edge for the bottom layer and added a bunch of single blooms with foam tape on the top layer. Some of these are part of the Floral Die Cuts pack, others are fussy cut from one of the patterned papers. I had these left from a previous project. I'm always happy when I have fussy cut elements ready to go! By the way, should you be interested, I used almost two whole pack of Floral Die Cuts.

I layered tissue paper behind my photo and glued it all in place. I tucked tabs and and other bits from the Journaling Spots behind the photo too for some color. Using foam tape, I also added a bunch of sentiment stickers from the Cardstock Stickers off to the right.

I wanted to add a long title, so I didn't use the alphas from Truly Grateful since those are larger. Instead, I went with the foam mini alphas from the Whimsical collection. I love that they are so colorful, the font is simple so it fits everything, and the mini size is perfect! I glued down my title off to the left and wrote journaling next to it. I added a few Wooden Buttons on top of some of the flowers, for texture, dimension, and interest. Last but not least, I splattered white acrylic paint on the floral borders.

That's it! Quick and easy, like I said! I hope I could inspire you to use your Floral Die Cuts, I know I've been hoarding them!

1 Cut File 3 Ways by Jamie Pate

Thursday, November 21, 2019

Jamie Pate here with my latest installment of cards. I've been all about cards lately. Think maybe it's the season? I sort of do. So let me introduce to what I would call 1 Cut File 3 Ways.

For this first card I call Adore and for all the cards here today, I am utilizing the cut file called Leaf Swirls. This is a bit of an intricate cut file. And honestly, it probably is not best used as a size for a card. But I made it work. Here's my tip: make sure you have a fresh blade for cutting this file. You can thank me later.

For card one, I cut the Leaf Swirls so that it would fit across my 4" card background. I suggest when placing this on your mat in the Silhouette software that you pull the corners to the size you want. This will depend on how the leaf is placed on the card. I pulled this card with the stem up so that it would cover a 4" area. The background of the card was colored with watercolors. And then the Puffy Phrase Sticker was placed on a vellum tag. The leaf is attached to the card base with just a bit of hot glue. Then tied with bakers twine. The tag is tied on the leaf with gold thread. And card one is complete.

This second card is a variation of the first card, but with some change ups. First I used the negative cut of the larger leaf as the background for my card. So there was a leaf shape for the Leaf Swirls to sort of be framed inside of. I kept this card pretty clean and only added splatters of gold metallic paint. Using the Puffy Phrase Sticker set again the Grateful sentiment was added to the bottom of the card. A Puffy Sticker leaf was layered over the leaf cut. And then more Puffy Sticker dots were added to the card. I love how much dimension this card has. This would be a great sketch for a scrapbook page too.

Lastly, the Leaf Swirls was cut, and again, a fresh blade is your friend here. This time after splattering the card background with gold metallic paint the leaf cut was painted with fallish hues of watercolors. The card background was wrapped with bakers twine. Then the leaf cut was tucked under the bow using hot glue to hold it well in place. This time for the sentiment I used the Hello Sunshine banner die cut from the Ephemera Die Cuts.

Three cards. One gorgeous cut file. Beautiful ways to share your love and gratitude for those you love with a card handmade by you.

Pumpkin Spice Layout by Elsie Robinson

Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Hey everyone, it’s Elsie Robinson here sharing another layout using Paige’s cut filesTruly Grateful collection! Now, this might be a super unpopular opinion, but I hate pumpkin spice lattes! I know. For a girl who’s favourite season is Autumn, it almost feels like sacrilege to not like this staple seasonal drink. But when I saw this Pumpkin Spice Latte cut file, it was too cute to not use on a layout!
I firstly started by cutting the Pumpkin Spice Latte cut file from white cardstock using a Silhouette Cameo 3. I used several scraps of orange patterns to back the pumpkin and I used Paper 04 to back the cup - I love that deep pink pattern! I used white glitter paper from my stash to back the whipped cream and I used vellum to back the rest of the cup to give the look of a plastic lid.

For some extra interest on my background I was inspired by the cut file to create my own faux coffee cup stains. I used brown watercolour to paint the bottom of a coffee cup which I then stamped onto my paper and then added splatters to create a more authentic coffee stained look.

For my title I used the navy alphas (from the Pick-Me-Up collection) to spell out ‘pumpkin spice is really not nice’ which is a play on the phrase ‘pumpkin spice and everything nice’! I drew and cut out a speech bubble from Paper 06 to pop the title on, which I placed next to my photo. To embellish, I used a combination of Ephemera Die CutsCardstock Stickers, and Puffy Stickers. I also placed a 2" strip of Paper 18 across the bottom of my layout which I felt grounded the design and made everything come together nicely.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure you check out Paige’s cut files for more inspiring designs!

Eight is Great Layout by Brianna Lepper

Monday, November 18, 2019

Hi friends! Brianna Lepper here with another scrapbook layout for the Paige Evans + Silhouette Design Team. For this layout, I used the Truly Grateful collection and cut out Paige's Flower Heart cut file with my Silhouette Cameo 3 from white cardstock.
After it was finished cutting, I took the cut file and used it as a stencil.  I prepped another sheet of white cardstock with gesso. I then took my cut file/stencil, set it on an angle, and applied modeling paste through it. After it all dried, I applied shimmer sprays from my stash in rainbow order.

After the mixed media completely dried overnight, I went ahead and cut the same Flower Heart cut file again, but offset it so that I would be able to layer the cut file on top of the mixed media element. I added foam strips to the back of the cut file to give it extra dimension and to create shadows.

One of my favorite techniques is using cut files as stencils and I love how the mixed media peeks out from underneath it! I started embellishing, keeping everything tone on tone. I fussy cut leaves from Paper 03Paper 10, and Paper 23 then put them on the page accordingly.

I also pulled a few more florals and leaves from both the Ephemera Die Cuts and Floral Die Cuts and adhered them down around the page. To add even more texture to my page, I used stickers from the Puffy Stickers and the Epoxy Stickers. I used the Thickers to create my title and pulled a few stickers from the Cardstock Stickers to finish it off.

I absolutely love all of the texture and dimension that this layout has. I hope I've inspired you in some way to try a cut file as a stencil and to also layer one on top of mixed media. Thank you so much for stopping by and I'll see you in my next post!

Fun Together Layout by Anita Bownds

Saturday, November 16, 2019

Hi crafty friends, Anita Bownds with you today sharing a fun layout using the Truly Grateful collection. I really love how you can get so many different looks using just one collection based on color and design. For my layout today I’ve gone for a girly look using lighter colors in the background with darker pops in the foreground.
I started off with white cardstock, trimming it down with my paper trimmer and then using my Silhouette Cameo and Lace Border cut file I cut four of each from Paper 06Paper 10. Then I adhered the top edge of each lace border to the background and machine stitched across the tops of them to add extra texture.
I then matted my photo on papers from the 6x8 Paper Pad and adhered it down then fussy cut out flowers from Paper 15. I started clustering them down one side of the photo then next I add a title using Thickers and Epoxy Stickers.
I scattered flowers around the layout and a cluster of flowers at the bottom. To finish off the layout I added a Puffy Sticker to the top of my photo and a few Cardstock Stickers and Epoxy Stickers around the photo and flowers.
Check out my process video of how my layout came together:

I hope I’ve given you some fun crafty inspiration today! Happy crafting!
