The One with Kauai Day Five

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Since Allie has been letting me use her nice Nikon camera I've been going picture crazy! I'm addicted to taking photos... We've been having a blast in Kauai and living every moment to the fullest. Wednesday was no exception! We started off the morning with a snorkel (my new favorite activity!) and then as we were drying off on the balcony this feathered friend came to say hi.
Photobucket
While the kids and grandkid stayed behind my parents went on a drive and when they came back they insisted we go to where they just went and I'm glad we did! Here's what I would have missed:
Photobucket
Daredevil Allie!
Photobucket
Photobucket
I would not want to fall on these sharp and jagged rocks!
Photobucket
Photobucket
We wanted to take a dive off of that cliff but thought better of it because of the two pictures above.
Photobucket
We were walking along the path when we were totally startled by a loud wooshing noise. We looked where the noise was coming from and it was like a blow hole but without the water. Allie stood over it and became the new Marilyn Monroe.
Photobucket
Just take a moment to let the scenery sink in.
Photobucket
Could there BE a more beautiful place on earth?
Photobucket
Driftwood at the beach.
Photobucket
Down at the beach someone had constructed huts. They didn't offer much protection from the torrential downpour that fell upon us, but they were cool to see!
Photobucket
This mess of rope washed up on the shore. I love all the colors and textures. I want to turn this picture really big and hang it somewhere in our apartment. Yup. That's what I wanna do.
Photobucket
My mom stayed behind to watch Fox so it was just the two of us (plus Dald and Allie).
Photobucket
I saw this pair of ants carrying a small red berry to their nest. Teamwork!
Photobucket
Back at the hotel, we picked up Malm and Fox and went back to the shops at the blowhole so my mom and sister could get the purse they couldn't stop thinking about since they saw it on Saturday.
Photobucket
I was admiring these necklaces made of Niihau shells and then I took a look at the price. Yessiree bub, that reads 10,000 smackeroos! And $7000! These babies should be locked up in a safe, not hidden behind a thin piece of glass in the middle of nowhere!
Photobucket
Down by the blowhole there were a couple of sea turtles wading in the water. I didn't get a very good picture of them, but there is one on the bottom left side of the water.
Photobucket
Later in the afternoon we went to check out a waterfall and see a luau. This coconut smiley face in the parking lot of the waterfall reminds me of Wilson from Cast Away.
Photobucket
I stood up on the ledge so I could take better pictures of this magnificently beautiful double waterfall.
Photobucket
Photobucket
People are so silly.
Photobucket
There was a man preaching and weaving baskets. His poor dog was hairless and scratching himself to bits.
Photobucket
Ahhh. Hawaii.
Photobucket
A colorful surf hut.
Photobucket
I spy with my little eye a kayaker through the palm trees.
Photobucket
Smith's Tropical Paradise - our luau destination. We kind of giggled at the name - Smith? That's not really a Hawaiian name. And they even opened with a prayer!
Photobucket
Before dinner I walked around and took pictures of the animals and scenery. This chicken is so funky lookin'!
Photobucket
This is the closest I've gotten to a wild rooster.
Photobucket
These doves are so pretty with their blueish faces.
Photobucket
Tree bark.
Photobucket
We gathered around to watch them lift a pig out of the sand. I couldn't watch. I don't particularly want to see the animal which I'm about to eat... Funny story about Fox though - at the beginning there were two men who blew into conches and Fox hummed right along at the exact same pitch and kept going when they were done. People turned around and laughed at his new found talent. Perhaps he'll be a singer :)
Photobucket
Dinner was so delicious I can't even describe!
Photobucket

Photobucket
Before seconds Chris, Fox, and I walked around the grounds and Chris had fun telling me about all the same things he saw here as in the Philippines.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Me not dum dum. You give me gum gum? (Name the movie!)
Photobucket
These lawn chairs look so inviting!
Photobucket
The sun setting.
Photobucket
Coconuts!
Photobucket
Bananas! Chris says that long chain at the end is called the banana heart. It definitely looks like a heart!
Photobucket
Chris kept going on about taro and at last we saw some.
Photobucket
Dried grass.
Photobucket
After dinner we made our way to the stage.
Photobucket
Dancers danced and hulaers hulaed right before our eyes.
Photobucket
They make it looks so easy!
Photobucket
Shake those hips!
Photobucket
"Oh we're going to the hukilau!"
Photobucket
The gals and guy who played with fire were my favorite.

Totally super duper fun day!
