The One with Ready for October & Ready for Fox

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Tomorrow is October 1st. Tomorrow I get to say, "I'm having a baby this month!" I can't believe tomorrow is October! It still feels like Fox is never going to come and I'm going to be pregnant for.ev.er.
I was in a festive mood this afternoon and went to the grocery store down the street and bought some pumpkins to jazz up the front porch. This is the one month of the year I'll be happy the new owner of this apartment complex painted all the doors jet black cuz they totally match my Halloween decor.

I just hope punk kids don't steal my pumpkins and smash them... At least I got pictures :)
My MIL got me this cute wreath; love it!
Photobucket
And then I've got some little things dispersed throughout the apartment to remind me of my favorite holiday.

Guess what else I did today? I FINISHED BUYING EVERYTHING I NEED FOR FOX!
(Don't mind the unchecked things - we'll buy those when he needs them in a few months.)
Photobucket
Photobucket
A million trillion dollars and no space to put everything later! But it feels oh so good to have everything checked off this massive list. Now I really feel like Fox can come. I still feel ill-prepared in the mentality department, I can't exactly fathom that in two weeks, more or less (less less less!) I will be a mom. Crazy scary/can't wait!

PS - My chinchilla (named Li'l Chinchilla - sooo creative I know) is cute.

The One with What I Like Today

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Turning to my handy dandy inspiration folder for today's post.
Pretty pillows from I don't know where. I've gotta figure out a solution to this problem of liking things and not knowing where I found them...
Photobucket
These arrows by Danielle Thompson. I am definitely envisioning these in older Fox's room.
Photobucket
This vinyl wall decor from Domestic. Sooooo pretty.
Photobucket
I want one. Joey does too.
Photobucket
This amazing handmade butterfly chandelier by Elizabeth Kartchner. WOW.
Photobucket
Photobucket
This amazingly easy and striking hair-do. I either wear my hair back in a ponytail or down and I've decided I'm bored with my only two options. Any ideas for long hair are greatly appreciated!
Photobucket
Fun mobile by PukaPuka. I have yet to purchase/make a mobile for Fox's crib. Thinking something along these lines in his colors??
Photobucket
Love this wall by Jennifer featured on Design*Sponge.
Photobucket
This headboard used as a prop (from what I gather??) by Johnny Vintage.
Photobucket
This alphabet wall from JustBeSplendid.

This online workshop from my super crafty and creative friend Amy Tangerine. Sign up sign up sign up!!

Can my own work inspire me? :) I made a layout for THIS event for 2Peas (I was tickled to be asked to make something for 2Peas!) and it will be revealed some time in October. Can't wait to share the entire thing!

In other news, I just got back from the doctor and having nothing to report. Fox is happy where he is. But come Friday, October 1st (cuz I want an October baby), I'll start getting creative about making him show up. Anyone got any castor oil?

The One with Above Fox's Crib

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Little things make me happy these days.
Sooooooooo I've been contemplating what to put on the big empty wall above Fox's bed.
Photobucket
Photobucket
At first I envisioned a frame wall, but I realized that's just too dangerous. I've been through two too many earthquakes since living here for only a year and things have fallen off our walls. Hence the frame wall was moved to this wall and I like how it's the first thing you see when you walk into the nursery. So bright and colorful and fun.
Photobucket
Ok, so ex-nay on the frames above the crib.
Then I thought about putting some kind of vinyl cut out cuz those are really popular right now and I like all the big tree ones. Buuut, after a thorough search on etsy and perusing the selection at Target, I just wasn't finding anything perfect.

Theeeeen, I was reading my friend Kristina Proffitt's blog post called "Ode to the Granny Square and a Share" and I was inspired by this photo (available for purchase here):

I did a quick search on etsy for "crocheted banner" and found Lindsey Ferguson's shop. Specifically, this banner:
Photobucket
I noticed she took custom orders so I quickly emailed her a picture of Fox's nursery and asked if she could custom make me three banners in those bright colors. Yes she can! Woo hoo! So in about one or two weeks, the space will be filled. Photo to come of course!

The One with the Home Depot Commercial

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Movies, TV shows, and commercials are filmed around here a lot. Like a lot a lot. It feels like not a day goes by that I don't see orange cones set up that say "no parking tomorrow from 7am-10pm" meaning they're going to be filming at that location at that time. There's a grassy knoll a block down from our apartment and lots of cute houses surrounding it that are always being filmed at. So I didn't blink twice when I came home from a GMO (not to be confused with GNO, I'm saying Girls' MORNING Out) and the block was filled with movie trucks. Same ol' same ol'. But then, around 7pm while Chris was out walking Joey, he called me and said, "You know the house with the red door that they're always filming at?" "Yeah." They've covered it in Christmas lights and now they're spraying it with fake snow!" "No way! I wanna see!" Forget changing into something nice or even putting on shoes that fit, I wanted to take pictures! This is what I look like in my 9th month of pregnancy: scrubby and bulbous, with bright colored socks and ill-fitting shoes:

But I got some cool pictures and that's all that matters :)
As I was snapping away I asked if this was for a movie. The guy said, nope, a Home Depot commercial. How random! I hope I see it and recognize it!
It's crazy how much equipment and how many people it takes just to make a stinkin commercial.

Spraying the house with "snow." Chris says it's biodegradable or something. I'll have to go back and see if there are any remnants.
Photobucket
Lots o' Christmas props.
Photobucket
If there was any day I would like to be in real snow, this would have been the day. It was a blazing HOT one! It's supposed to reach 100 today... Perhaps we'll head to the cooler shores of the beach. Anyways. Feast your eyes upon this magical winter wonderland created out of nowhere in 100 degree weather in the middle of September:

So festive and random and fun! Gotta love being so close to Hollywood!

The One with 37 Weeks = Full Term...Let the Guessing Games Begin!

Friday, September 24, 2010

All three of my pregnancy Bibles/resources (What To Expect, Baby Center, and I Am Pregnant) say that today marks a big milestone in my pregnancy - I've reached full term! If Fox were born today, he wouldn't be a preemie, he'd just be a brand new baby :) And I didn't think I'd make it past 33 weeks cuz all my Braxton Hicks... I worry too much.
Photobucket
(Super cute fox cross-stitch courtesy of my friend Jenny - thanks Jenny - I love it!)

Now that my due date is three weeks away, I thought it'd be fun to do what every other first time mom does: guess baby's birth date/stats!

Here is my official vote:
Date of birth - October 10th, 2010
Time - 12:15pm
Weight - 7 pounds 3 ounces
Length - 19 inches

What's your guess?
Let's make things interesting and whoever is the closest will win a PaigeBook (which I haven't made yet, but here's an idea of what it'll look like):
Photobucket
Good luck! And please don't guess any day after October 15th, haha :)

The One with Two Peas in a Pod Layout

Hopefully it's enough to entice you to go to the American Crafts Blog to see the entire project!

The One with September American Crafts Layouts

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

I took a break from scrapping in August, but now I'm back to share two layouts that took me allllllll day to make. I'm a li'l rusty :)

EXPECTING

Tips/tricks: This layout is a bit (okay, a lot) crazier and busier and more colorful than I'm used to, but I had fun playing with misting! First I put my piece of 12 x 12 white cardstock in the sink, then I put down some templates (I used two butterflies and three flourishes), then I sprayed over entire thing with red, orange, yellow, green, and blue mists. I like misting in my sink because I just use the sink hose to wash away all the excess ink around the sink and on the templates and there's no mess. While the layout was drying (which thankfully doesn't take long at all) I sewed together a bunch of House shapes (the chipboard/paper/felt shapes). I spread them across the cardstock like banners and glued them in place. Then came the photos, title, and journaling, and I called it good. Oh, and I watched Supernatural Season 1 while scrapping.

Journaling says: It's pretty funny/ridiculous how many pregnant woman I know right now! Like I've heard somewhere: "There must be something in the water!" But really, it's so much fun to share pregnancy stories and be in the same boat together since I have no idea about anything. These girls have been my constant question answerers. I can't wait for all our babies to be born and play together!

Supplies: Cardstock, brads (jewel, pearl, regular), buttons (glitter, regular), chipboard, flowers (crocheted, paper, puffy), felt hearts, letter stickers (foam, paper), pen, adhesive: American Crafts; Spray mists, templates: Tattered Angels; Paper cutter, scissors: Fiskars; Sewing machine: Brother; Thread: Coats & Clark

SO IN LOVE

Tips/tricks: I've never made accordion paper flowers until today, but once I started, I couldn't stop! My fingers and hands have been going numb lately, another pregnancy symptom, so it was a bit of painful work to make them all, but, I love them. I hot glued them on an aqua cardstock background, accented the center of each one with a pearl brad, then added a photo, title, and simple journaling.

Journaling says: Eric and Tanya outside the Red Lion House where Maren and Logan had their wedding luncheon.

Supplies: Cardstock, patterned paper, pearl brads, scalloped ribbon, letter stickers, pen, adhesive: American Crafts; Scalloped border punch, scissors, paper cutter: Fiskars; Scoring tablet: Martha Stewart Crafts; Other: Hot glue gun, extra glue sticks
