Home Sweet Home Layout by Kelly Daye

Hello friends, it’s Kelly Daye here today and my page today celebrates a change of seasons. It happens pretty early here in Edmonton, Alberta. The gorgeous, rich tones in the Truly Grateful collection are perfect for your autumn layouts.
I thought the plaid Paper 19 worked well as a background because it’s predominately white. I blended on some white gesso to soften it a bit and splattered with watered down white acrylic paint. I made all the cut files with white cardstock, cutting each out twice. I started with the Haunted House cut file. I wanted the cut files to really stand out and glued two of each together. I love the look of the thicker cut file. I did the same with the Cloud Trio and my title, Home Sweet Home.

I made my faux landscape with the pretty floral side of Paper 19. I popped up the lower half with foam tape so that my house could be tucked into the garden. The haunted house got a complete make-over by yours truly. Rather than spooky, my ruby hued jewel is a pretty painted lady, complete with floral drapes, sunny windows, and candy colored turrets. There’s even a shiny door bell, ready to greet friends. All the papers are from the 12x12 Paper Pad except the window panes, I cut those from Horizon Paper 01.

I paper backed the title with select pieces of Paper 09. There are so many pretty patterns and color combinations on this paper, the possibilities are endless. It’s also popped up with foam tape. Beneath the title I added letters from the Puffy Phrase Stickers to spell ‘BLESSED’. A mushroom and heart Puffy Sticker and a floating leaf caught by the wind add an extra taste of fall. A few fussy cut trees from Paper 07 finished off the garden nicely. A couple of the trees became shrubs near the house by cutting off their trunks. Did you spot the bunny sitting there? She’s also from the Puffy Stickers, as are the birds. One of the birds flies by with love. The sweet, tiny heart is from the Mixed Embellishments. The sunny message, ‘Rise & Shine’ is from the Ephemera Die Cuts. To help my white cut files stand out a bit more, I dabbed a bit of watercolor paint onto the background around the house and title using Prima - Pastel Dreams watercolors.

Happy crafting everyone!

  2. Hello, hello. Thank you so much for your message <3 I've wanted to use the Haunted House cut file for a while and I kind of felt like a home designer picking out the perfect colours (for me) Funny enough, I've lived in a house painted 'Merlot' with Navy trim :D <3 I honestly just noticed that. LOL !! Cheers dear xK
