The One with Trampled Snow Art from Simon Beck

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

I've always been a fan of types of art that some people might find unusual, or not art at all, like paint splatterings by Jackson Pollock,
and duotone canvases by Mark Rothko.
Or, my most favorite work of Conceptual Art is An Oak Tree by Michael Craig-Martin. The artist literally thinks this glass of water up on a shelf is an oak tree...
Enter today's artist: Simon Beck!
"Since 2004 England-based Simon Beck has strapped on a pair of snowshoes and lumbered out into the the freshly fallen snow at the Les Arcs ski resort in France to trample out his distinctly geometric patterns, footprint by footprint. Each work takes the 54-year-old artist anywhere between six hours and two days to complete, an impressive physical feat aided from years of competitive orienteering. The orienteering also helps him in the precise mapping process which often begins on a computer before he’s able to mark landmarks in the snow that guide his precise walking patterns."
I'm impressed, to say the least!
These and many many more can be found on Simon Beck's Facebook page

  5. Wow! That is incredible. I love landscape art like that. It's so cool to me that artists spend so much time working on a piece of art that will only last a few days, if that!

P.S. I love Jackson Pollock too!!
