Ballet Slippers Canvas by Lorilei Murphy

Lorilei Murphy got super creative with her design team project and used a cut file to create the most beautiful canvas I ever did see!
I've wanted to paint a dance canvas for my daughter for awhile. When I saw Paige's Ballet Slippers cut file I knew it would work perfectly!
I started out by cutting the outline of the shoes in white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo and then painting the entire cut file dark pink. I used the pink watercolor paint from Vicki Boutin's Watercolor Set. Once the outline was dry, I applied it to the canvas with gel medium and let that dry. I then painted in the shoe, leaving white space for highlights. Using various pinks and peachy pinks I added splatters in three areas of the canvas. I finished off with a few Heidi Swapp Gold Color Shine splatters for good measure!

I had some flowers left over from her ballet costume last year as well as some white paper flowers. I added white paint and pink watercolor to them for a mixed media feel. I used a hot glue to arrange them at the top of the canvas. I added watercolor to thin white ribbon and tucked that into the flower cluster for a bit of extra dimension and prettiness!

We both love how it turned out! There are so many of Paige's gorgeous cut files that would work great for this technique!
