Mermaid Layout by Heidi K. Lewis

Friday, May 7, 2021

Hey there scrappy friends,  Heidi K. Lewis here to share a Mermaid and Wildflowers layout made with the new Wonders collection. This layout was largely inspired by Paper 6; the half circles on side A reminded me of mermaid scales, while the deep blue color of side B inspired the color story for the layout.

To create this layout, I used my Cricut to cut the Mermaid cut file from white cardstock. Then I used Lindy’s Gang Magicals to paint the mermaid. The hair is painted with Queen of Hearts Red, the tail is painted in Blazing Black, and the skin is painted with Clam Bake Beige. Next I wanted to create an underwater scene around the mermaid. I selected the Wildflowers cut file to represent seaweed and cut the image out twice from white cardstock. Again, I used Lindy’s Gang Magicals to paint the cut file. The Blazing Black color that I used to paint the seaweed actually has a deep blue undertone similar to the color of side B of Paper 6.

Once my both of the cut files were painted and dried, it was time to assemble and embellish the layout. I used plain white cardstock as my background and centered the mermaid on the background. Then I created a couple of seaweed clusters on either side of the mermaid. I layered Floral Die Cuts into the seaweed and around my photo, which is an overcast picture of the Oregon Coast. Using the Puffy Stickers, I added some scales to the mermaid tail, mandala bubbles to the background, and hearts to the photo. The “dream” title was selected from the Ephemera Die Cuts. The Tassel Paper Clips reminded me of seaweed and made the perfect finishing touch to this moody underwater layout.

Hope you enjoyed learning how this layout came together. Until next time!
