Girls Can Build a Float Mini Album by Monique Lowe

Thursday, July 4, 2024

Hi creative friends! Monique Lowe here and today I am sharing a mini album - something a bit different for me! I have used a variety of Paige's cut files for feature pages and to embellish my mini album, along with her beautiful Blooming Wild collection! Last year a friend and I committed to leading the big task of building a float for our community procession. Our school had not had a float since before 2020, so this was the year for a big comeback! It resulted in the most fantastic community spirit, an amazing day, and this mini album as a gift for my friend.
I created the entire album using white cardstock and pretty patterned papers from Blooming Wild. To start, I cut all my foundation pages using the stitched circle from the Simple Shapes for Stitching as well as some plain circles of the same size (4¾" diameter). Next, I cut out a variety of Summer and Tropical themed cut files to use as feature pages, as well as embellishments. I backed them all with colorful patterned papers. For my cover page, I used Paper 3 for the background stitched circle. I hand stitched around the edges using yellow variegated embroidery thread and added yellow pom pom trim to the edge. I chose the Palm Tree from the 20 Summer Cut Files to adorn my cover and backed the leaves with Paper 5, adding large gold gems for coconuts. I turned to the 6x8 Paper Pad and the mini version of Paper 8 for my title, fussy cutting lots of little letters to build my title. I raised them up using foam strips and added in the date using white foam Thickers.
To keep continuity through the mini album, I only used Blooming Wild which helped keep the color palette cohesive. I also stuck to a circular theme, adding in extra photos cut in circles and circular shaped photo collages. I chose to use cut files that are theme related throughout, especially hibiscus florals, and finished my pages with stitched edges and pom pom trim. To hold it all together, I’ve used a binder ring and finished my mini album off with a cute and colorful handmade charm.
I had so much fun creating this little album! It was definitely out of my comfort zone but I am delighted with the results! Thanks so much for stopping by to take a look. I really hope you feel inspired to get creative using these fun Paige's cut files and Blooming Wild too!
