The One with the LA County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Every third Tuesday of the month admission is free to the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden. Chris was at school from 7am to 8pm yesterday so I had to entertain myself and Fox all day so we went - why ever not?!?

It's a well-known fact: I'm obsessed with all animals in all their varieties. Just visit our zoo, I mean, apartment and you'll see I speak no lies. So when the first thing I saw upon entering the gardens was a gorgeous peacock, I was pretty stoked.

Such a pretty shade of blue!

Then we walked a little bit further and this guy was blocking the road:

Peacocks everywhere!
And then I turned another corner and this peacock was showing off his feathers!

His backside.

I was seriously considering going home after seeing this - I felt complete! But I trudged on and saw lots of other neat things.

Poor female birds always get the shaft in prettiness.

Lizard!

Another lizard!

I don't really have captions for the rest of my photos, they're just things I thought were pretty and interesting.

Saw these pretty tile works of art on the way out.

I forgot to grab a map at the entrance, but I'm pretty sure I only made a tiny dent in "to see and do" at the Arboretum. Definitely gonna have to go back next month!

  1. My sister takes my nephew there ALL the time; she got a yearly pass and says it's definitely worth it, especially once my nephew started walking around!

  3. My little sister is terrified of peacocks. No lie. She jumped about six feet at the San Diego Zoo when she realized there was one close to her. Everytime I see a peacock, I think of that incident and it makes me laugh.

  4. You know just one of the million reasons you're so gosh-darn cool?! You GO places! You explore! It's SOOO cool! Seriously, I WANT to do that, I really do. But I have NO idea where to start. LOL. :-p

Love all these photos! And I can't wait to start exploring Austin too. I mean, I DO have time now... and in a few months, I'll have a cool baby to take to these places too! ;-)

  5. We went on a ton of field trips growing up so it always blows my mind when people want to go their, by choice, hahaha but I guess it's only cuz I grew up in Arcadia. I'll have to go with you guys sometime when my son is out of the womb and give you the lowdown on the history lesson (learned in 3rd grade, thank you much) of Lucky Baldwin, the Indians and his house (unless you have read up on it already!). PS did you know there's a fine for running over a peacock in Arcadia, which is quite annoying cuz they seem to know they have the right of way and are always around my cousin's house and anyone else who lives by Foothill! The pretty ones are also the male - something I always found interesting cuz it seems to work the other way for us humans.

Haha, I love that you posted a picture of the peacock's backside!

  7. Love the pictures of the peacocks, and I was intrigued by the one you took of the birds....errr....backside. I wouldn't have thought to do that but it was really pretty color combination, lol!
