Hugs Layout by Kelly Daye

Hi friends, Kelly Daye here! As my time on Paige’s Silhouette Design Team winds down, I’ve made this last layout with love and hugs to Paige. It’s been such a pleasure and privilege. I’ve loved every single minute of working with the gorgeous collections, clever cut files, and of course, our Paige, who is always beyond kind and supportive. My layout was filled with all my favourite things from Go the Scenic Route and a few bits from previous collections too.

I’ve used Paige’s Flower Frame cut file to put Paige and me into a colorful garden filled with pretty butterflies and birds. Once cut out of white cardstock, I backed the flowers with a focus on yellow, pink, and orange and used three different blue/green papers to back the leaves. Paige’s Turn the Page, Pick-Me-UpHorizon, and Go the Scenic Route collections have all contributed. The first three are available digitally, so you can print it all at home to your heart's content! How fabulous is that?

Once backed, I made holes in the cut file for stitching. Paige actually has a cut file specifically for stitching the Flower Frame, but I wanted to stitch just inside the cut file so I made the holes by hand.  Then, using six strands of DMC thread, I stitched each flower and leaf over about three days. I chose thread colors not so they’d match the paper exactly but so they’d simply complement the paper. That allowed me to add more and more shades of each color to my design and that makes me so happy. Once completely stitched, I placed it on an offset of the cut file that was cut out of the deep green Paper 22 from Pick-Me-Up. It created a nice border around the cut file that helps it stand off the background.

The background paper, with its delicate colored frames was a nice alternative to a plain cardstock and I thought nicely echoed the frame cut file. You may have noticed my preference for a patterned paper in my background. For me, it’s one more opportunity to bring color, shape, and texture to a project. It’s Paper 19, also from Pick-Me-Up. I wanted a second mat around the layout and used pretty and feminine Paper 23 from Pick-Me-Up.That too was stitched and small coordinating beads were popped on every seventh chain. Can you ever have too many flowers? Since that’s a big no from me,  I added flowers, birds, sunshine, and butterflies from the Chipboard Stickers, more flowers from the Floral Die Cuts, and even more butterflies from Paper 20, all from Go the Scenic Route.

The ‘yay you’ banner was perfect and it's from the Shapes & Phrases Die Cuts of Paige’s new Memory Explosion Box available exclusively at Michaels. Finally, there’s the photo I took of Paige in her pretty booth at Creativation last year and a photo of myself, used on my team banner.  Paige’s cute photo is popped up on a tag from the Ephemera Die Cuts with a tiny tassel and thread from my stash. Most importantly, ‘HUGS’, spelled out with the Foam Thickers is what I send out to each and every one of you!

Thanks ever so much for the wonderful opportunity Paige! Thanks to all of you for cheering me on! It’s been a dream come true, hugs Kelly xo.
