World Card Making Day 2018

I made a card for the big celebrations happening over at the Scrapbook & Cards Today Blog for World Card Making Day!
HOW TO: Trim a piece of smooth white cardstock to 8 x 4" then fold it in half to make the card base. Machine stitch all across the front using white thread in a sunburst design to create lots of texture. Punch (20) 3/4" squares from a rainbow of patterned papers (I picked papers from my Fancy Free, Take Me Away, Oh My Heart, Turn the Page, and Pick-Me-Up collections) then trim them all in half diagonally to create triangles. Find the center of the card base, 2" in and 2" down, then use the middle as a starting place for adhering the triangles into a quilt heart shape. Use foam squares to adhere the triangles for lots of dimension. Type a sentiment on a Typecast Typewriter, trim it down, then adhere it across the front to finish.

Amsterdam Layout by Julie Taylor

Hi there scrappy friends, Julie back with you today sharing a new layout called Amsterdam Adventures.
I have a thing for little houses and found a fab cut file called Cityscape which reminded me of all the wonderful architecture in and around Amsterdam. I cut out the houses in two sizes and watercolored them before backing them in dark gray cardstock to highlight the windows.

I cut the title word on my Silhouette and backed it with papers from the Take Me Away 6x6 Paper Pad. I added that across the middle of the page and added two clusters, top & bottom with photos, die cuts, houses cut from the Take Me Away papers and stickers from the 30-page Paige Evans #StickerBook.

I finished the layout with some watercolors around the clusters and a bit of machine stitching. I hope you have enjoyed how I’ve used these cut files and thanks for looking!

Laugh the Day Away Layout by Missy Whidden

Hey, friends, Missy Whidden here! I have a new layout to share today showcasing Paige’s Geometric Background cut file and lots of the Oh My Heart collection. Using cut files is one of my favorite techniques, but on this layout I decided to use all the little bits and pieces that are usually discarded to complete my background design. I cut the image twice on Oh My Heart Paper 05. I wanted to create a fun and colorful mosaic type of look, so I placed the outline of the cut file down onto my background paper and very carefully glued all the little pieces back into their places. I then peeled up the actual cut file. I love how it turned out! I used Oh My Heart Paper 15 as my background and smudged a lot of white gesso first before gluing down the pieces.
This paper was perfect for this design because it creates all these fun sprinkles of color and it created some really nice texture. I embellished around my photo with Oh My Heart Chipboard Stickers and stickers from the 30-page Paige Evans #StickerBook. I also tucked in a few colors of matching tangled thread.

I wanted to play on all the bright colors on the background so I cut a few of the layered circles from Oh My Heart Paper 14 to use as layers around the photo. I also cut a few small ones from one of the washi tape pieces from the Oh My Heart Sticker Book. This cute circle sticker is from the 30-page #StickerBook as are the two stickers above the photo. I did add a few colors of spray inks on the background to add more solid areas of color so the photo could stand out a bit more.

I mixed and matched the title by using a piece from the Oh My Heart Chipboard Stickers and some of the small alphas from the 30-page #StickerBook. I also added a few pieces of washi tape underneath and a piece of an orange scallop I fussy cut from Oh My Heart Paper 17. I wrote my journaling in white pen.

Shine Bright Layout by Lady Nany

Hey friends, Lady Nany on the blog with a new layout inspired by an afternoon of girls strolling through the quiet Punta del Este, Uruguay in the spring. Recently Paige added the Shine Bright cut file in her store and upon seeing it, a clear idea for my new 2018 page came to my mind.
 I returned home and turned on my Silhouette Curio. I found the Shine Bright cut file and cut it on white cardstock. Then, I went back to Silhouette Studio to ungroup the figure and cut the big star on the Fancy Free Paper 10.

I applied watercolors in metallic blue color and once dry I stuck the die cut on it. On the text of the star I put Glossy Accents to highlight the title. For the background of the layout I chose a pastel lilac cardstock and sprinkled silver metallic watercolors and combined it with Pick-Me-Up Paper 03.

I chose several papers in cold tones from the Pick-Me-Up 6x6 Paper Pad and Take Me Away 6x6 Paper Pad and I added stars made with three sizes of punches. I also used the white mini inner stars that I had cut at the beginning and placed some over others with machine stitching in the center. Then I passed the edge of the star and the lilac cardstock through the sewing machine (this time without thread) so that the stitching holes would give it a visual interest.

Around the photo I decorated with fussy cut images from Pick-Me-Up Paper 08 and Paper 14 and applied some Rub-Ons.

I wrote journaling and the date and that's all friends! I hope you find inspiration in this layout! Until next time!

Leaf Frame Layout by Cristina Sales

Hi ladies Cristina here, happy Wednesday to all of you! Today is my turn to share a page with you that I made featuring a cut file called Leaf Frame.
It's like this cut file was made for me! Fall is my favorite season. I was born in October so that's one of the reasons. I cut the Leaf Frame from white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo and then added it to my layout at an angle. I applied watercolors on the background, choosing a lovely light blue and brown colors.

I put my picture in the centre of the square to create a frame all round it and then I made my composition using different kinds of embellishments. To embellish I added a bow, a mini tag, and some mini buttons. My title is a sticker from the 30-page Paige Evans #StickerBook and I added another cut file by Paige called Flower.

In order to use this Sketch & Stitch® cut file you will need to have a:

 The Silhouette Cameo is a revolutionary tool and draws the design and then pierces the holes for you! Instead of taking lots of time to poke the holes by hand, the Cameo will pierce the holes for you and they will be perfectly spaced! Such a time saver! And because the Cameo draws the design, you will be able to see exactly where to stitch if the design is more intricate. No more guessing and wondering where to stitch next!
Because of the complexity of these designs, Silhouette Studio may be a bit slow as you are working with the file, and it may take up to two hours for the machine to draw the design and pierce all of the holes. While the machine is sketching and cutting you can run some errands, eat lunch, take a nap, etc., and then when you come back to your machine the paper will be all ready to stitch!

Fly Away Layout by Steffi Ried

Hello and welcome to a new layout from me, Steffi! I am very happy that it is autumn. And so I got the desire to create my first fall layout of the season. I used a Leaf Frame cut file from Paige.
I think the frame made of leaves is very nice. I cut it out of white cardstock using a Silhouette Cameo. The photo is from our holidays last year at the Baltic Sea. There was a wind every day. We always let our kite fly. That was a lot of fun.

First I glued on the photo and then painted it with acrylic paints at the edge so that the transition from the photo to the white background is softer.

Then I put the frame on the photo. In addition I decorated the frame with stickers.

From the Pick-Me-Up Floral Transparency Paper I cut out some gold colored leaves which were glued with 3D glue dots. Many thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

September 2018 Highlights

Lots of home improvement projects happened in September! Starting with painting the whole house. This time we hired professional painters. Here is the before of the family room:

We added some twinkly porch lights after driving around to literally five different Target stores in the area to get them on clearance! Ha!
 And then I used a stencil to paint the back patio:
We got our Lego minifigures set up on these wooden shelves that my dad helped me make while we stayed there over the summer.
One of our favorite things about Colorado is all the wild bunnies. Not a day goes by that we don't see at least one. Can you spy three?
 Fox is a self proclaimed "gamer" and "YouTuber" and started going to Coding Club after school once a week. I am so impressed by his mad skillz!
 This is the view that sold me on this house. I love a good view and from here just one block away we get a spectacular 180 degree view of the mountains to downtown Denver and more.
On Monday September 10th I began my weight loss / getting healthy journey. We desperately want to have another child and I think my unhealthy habits have been a key factor in our infertility. I now count my calories, get at least 10,000 steps a day, do a workout video 5 times a week, and don't get junk food or drink soda anymore. It hasn't been easy, but I love the results. 

 One Thursday I was walking to the school to pick up Fox and Jane from Lego club and I saw a cute little black dog get run over by a car and killed. To this day (I am writing this in January 2019) I can't get it out of my head. I believe I have PTSD. Animals are so precious to me. My email address all growing up was PetQueen. I love pets. We have many. I wanted to be a veterinarian from a young age all the way until I couldn't hack the science classes in college. So to witness this completely broke me. The very next day I saw another dog without a leash and immediately loaded her up in the car and took her to the vet. Because of her microchip she was able to be reunited with her family. I couldn't save one dog, but hopefully I saved this one.

 We went with Nana and Papa up into the mountains to go on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. It was a beautiful fall day in the Rockies.
