Crafty Beach Bash Recap

Thursday, April 25, 2024

The third weekend in April I flew to Houston, Texas then drove to Conroe to teach alongside the one and only Vicki Boutin at the Crafty Beach Bash hosted by Crafter's Dream Retreat
Cheri, Courtney, and Christiana (the triple C's!) have been planning this event since the Crafty Fiesta last year and after much anticipation the scrappy weekend arrived, woohoo!
I took an early morning flight out of Denver and Pikes Peak was peeking out above the clouds, so cool!
My scrappy buddy Shannon who works for United was on both my flights which made traveling so much more fun and not so lonely! I loved getting all the ins and outs of flying from someone in the know :)
We landed in hot and humid Houston lol and took a Lyft to Conroe. Well, first he tried to drop us off in a random neighborhood which was a bit scary... but we figured it out and made it to the Hyatt hotel. This area of Texas is called The Woodlands and I can see why! Lots of beautiful trees!
The view from my hotel room.
All set up and ready to go!
I found Vicki!! She's the best. We had a meet'n'greet the first night and took lots of pics with scrappy friends!
The rooms were opened so everyone could set up their stuff in preparation for classes.
The next day was Friday and that same day I got to announce my Adventurous collection so I wore this travel dress to match :)
In the classes we made 4 layouts and a mini album! If you missed out on the event, don't worry, you can purchase the Concentric Heart-Shaped Mini Album Class PDF HERE and the 4 Poppy & Pear Layouts Class PDF HERE.
Yummy food! Mexican for lunch, French toast for breakfast, BBQ for lunch, and a charcuterie board place for lunch the last day which was my favorite of them all. Soooo yummy I'd go back to Conroe just for that sandwich!
I was gifted this can of Dr. Pepper and it was delightful! Tastes like summer :)
Group photo time! I don't have the official ones yet but once I do I'll be sure to add them here.
There were about 180 crafters from all around the world who joined in the fun!
The event was divided into two groups in two separate rooms so I taught two classes in one room the first day then taught the same two classes to the group in the other room the second day. A li'l switcheroo!
I love seeing how people adapt the projects and make them their own!
The projector screen and sound system are a must when teaching groups this large. Gotta love technology!
Love this.
Fun pics from the event!
Embracing my Monica hair haha.
Thank you so much to Cheri, Courtney, and Christiana for inviting me back to Texas to teach! Hope to do it all again soon!!
YAY FOR SCRAPBOOKING!!
Check out all my upcoming in-person events HERE - this event was the first of many the rest of the year!

Licks of Love Layout by Monique Lowe

Hi creative friends! Monique Lowe here sharing a flower-filled layout featuring Paige's lovely Flower Cluster cut file and a variety of her collections including Blooming WildSplendid, and Wonders.
I wanted to create a fun and colorful layout to document a sweet moment with my fur babies, Athena and Skye. To create my background, I swiped Distress Oxides onto a sheet of white cardstock (previously prepped with clear gesso). Using a wet paintbrush, I dabbed at the ink swipes to loosen and spread the color. Then I layered the color by spritzing Shimmerz Sprays in coordinating shades and left it to dry. I opted to cut the Flower Cluster in various sizes and used black cardstock to give the florals a strongly defined outline. I chose a few bright and bold patterned papers from Paige’s collections to back them. Next, I used three squares from Paper 6 (Splendid), placing these tone-on-tone and diagonally on the mixed media background. I built on these by adding 2 inch squares to each cluster, using both sides of Paper 11 (Blooming Wild). I added my photos to the right of the central cluster, with the title in black Thickers in the middle of my page. Then I embellished the clusters with the cut file florals and leaves and a few flower ephemera pieces from the Wonders collection. Finally, I added in a few unbacked flowers, some acrylic heart pieces, and a chain stitched border.
I loved recalling this funny moment with my fur babies and hope you feel inspired to get creative documenting your memories with the Flower Cluster too!

Kitty Unicorn Layout by Kelly Day

Hello scrappy friends! Kelly Daye here with a new layout using Paige’s cute Unicorn cut file. It’s all paper-backed with the gorgeous Splendid and Blooming Wild collections.
I’ve turned our sweet 16 year old rescue kitty, Petals, into a Meowgical Kittycorn. It seemed fitting to her silly personality. I made all the backing pieces in the Silhouette Design Studio with a technique I learned from Paige. Watch the video and take your own pretty pages to the next level in a whole new way! After cutting out the Unicorn from white cardstock I thought a Meowgical Kittycorn would be wearing a cute bandana and made a cut file you can grab for free at my own blog at the link above. Pretty Blooming Wild Paper 24 made it extra girly. I continued the rainbow theme onto the background with a cloud stencil and Distress Oxides. Adding some simple stitching created even more interest, color, and texture. I cut some rainbows from Blooming Wild Paper 6 and tucked them into clouds floating around my layout. They’re embossed with stars to add a little bit more texture. A threesome of Mini Flower Puffy Stickers and butterflies fussy cut from Paper 16 take you around the page. I love adding little details. The title was made with Thickers. I love all the pretty colors! I hope you're inspired to make a Meowgical pet of your very own using Paige’s cute Unicorn cut file and pretty collections!

Blooms Layout by Jackie Ashton

Hi everyone! Jackie Ashton here with my DT project using Paige's Folk Flowers from the 19 Spring Cut Files paired with the colorful Blooming Wild collection.
I started by cutting the Folk Flowers from white cardstock and added it to a background made from the green floral Paper 5. I wanted the cut file to be peeking behind my photographs and act as an additional layer to my background. I backed each photograph with patterned papers from the 6x8 Paper Pad, leaving a small border around the edge. After adding my photographs across the page, I added a few tags from Paper 9 behind, linking the two sets of tags with some thread. Underneath the left hand side photograph, I added two labels from Paper 13 to write my journaling. For the title I used the lovely Thickers. I finished my layout with bits from the Sticker Book and flowers from the Puffy Phrase Stickers.
I love how this turned layout out and I hope you can get some inspiration to use Blooming Wild and the Folk Flowers from the 19 Spring Cut Files! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day!

Xmas Stocking Layout by Paige Evans

Monday, April 22, 2024

Here is the finished layout that we made in today's Make With Me Monday featuring torn patterned paper strips! I used my Sugarplum Wishes collection and created a page for Fox opening up his stocking this past Christmas morning. The horizontal torn paper strips balance out the vertically cascading photos & embellishments! Lots of bright patterned papers bring the page to life and a punched border strip frame keep your eyes within the page as well as hide some edges as you can see in the video :)
Here is the video for re-watching and you can find the Make With Me Monday playlist HERE.

Blooming Wild Envelope Mini Album by Amber Mitchell

Hi crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on Paige's blog today to share with you a mini album that I created using the Blooming Wild collection and a handful of Paige's envelope cut files: 123, and 4.
When it came to creating this project, I decided to combine two of my favorite things: binder rings and envelopes. I'm a huge fan of binder ring albums because they're incredibly easy to make and so much fun to flip through! And I always love including envelopes in my projects as fun, interactive elements that also add extra storage. For this project, I used four envelopes, white binder rings, and some handmade chipboard covers.

I cut out the envelopes and then folded and creased them along the predetermined lines. I did not fold the top of my envelopes down for this project - I left them open so that larger photos or journaling cards could be tucked into them. I used liquid glue to adhere the bottom of the envelopes to their adjacent tabs. I then punched three holes along the bottom of each envelope and set them aside to make the covers.
The covers of this album were made using medium weight chipboard. I cut them to have a width that was slightly larger than that of my envelopes (4 inches). My front cover measured 2.5 x 4 1/8 inch and my back cover measured 4 1/8 x 5 inches. I wrapped these using a sheet of patterned paper from the Project Pad. I then lined them using scraps I had from Paper 18. Next, I added holes to the bottoms of each cover, using the holes on my envelopes as a guide.

I created a few photo mats for this project in various sizes and added them to the backs of the first three envelopes. I also added journaling cards to each envelope. One thing I love about this type of project is that SO many photos can be tucked inside each envelope. Photos can also be added straight to the binder rings themselves to add space and texture between the envelopes.

The final step, and always my favorite step, was to embellish. I started by adding green eyelets to the holes on both of my covers, just to give the project a more finished look. On the front cover I added silver foil corners and a rainbow from the Chipboard Stickers. I layered up Cardstock Stickers and a flower from the Floral Die Cuts around these. Throughout the album I used a lot more of these flowers. On the second envelope, I created a cluster with them by layering smaller ones on top of a large die cut. To this envelope, I also paperclipped on a few handmade paper tassels I created.

Paper 16 features a lot of beautiful butterflies in various colors. I fussy cut a lot of these and added them on nearly every page to drive home the theme of Spring. I love how happy these make the album feel! For some final touches, I added clips from my stash, a bunch of sentiments, and a few tiny flowers from the Mini Flower Puffy Stickers.
I love how this album turned out! I love how the envelopes vary in size and allow for sneak peeks of the other pages, and I just LOVE how bright & happy it looks as a whole! Thanks so much for stopping by my post today!
