The One with Fox at Six Months

Thursday, April 14, 2011

My baby is six months old. He might as well be goin' off to college! They get so big so fast. His six month appointment is on Monday, so I'll get his official stats then, but here are my home-done measurements:

Length: 27" (between 50-75%)
Weight: 17.6 pounds (between 25-50%)
Head circumference: 18.25" (95%)

He still has a ginormous head! It houses his superior brain :)

Fox at 3, 4, 5, and now 6 months. See how he's growing!

Fox has won us over in every way possible, that's for sure. He gets cuter and cuter and more fun every day. When babies are first born, they don't do so many things. But Chris and I were talking last night and now he does lots of things!

He can sit up on his own for a few minutes at a time.

He reaches and grabs for EVERYTHING then IMMEDIATELY puts it in his mouth. I have to wear my hair in a pony tail every single day now cuz he grabs it and yanks and it hurts!

He was put in a Pack'n'Play for the first time and seems to enjoy it. For five minutes at a time. Then he's done.

He is fascinated with Joey the dog. Can't WAIT until they can play together! But until then, he has stuffed toy dogs to play with. Or rather, chew and suck on.

He cries at the drop of a hat. He can also be consoled and brought to smiles within seconds with a little distraction like mommy's camera!

We call him our little "manipilator" cuz he fake cries.

He makes the cutest faces. All. The. Time.

Best of all and the biggest happy change since he was 5 months? He's sleeping through the night! Can I get a hallelujah, amen, singing praises!

Our nightly routine is as follows: Around 6:30pm he starts getting a little fussy. At 7pm I draw him a bath. Note: he has still NEVER smiled while taking a bath. I don't know why he doesn't like baths... most babies do! But not Fox. Oh well. He is starting to kick and play in the water, but no smiles. Anyways, after bath time I put him in his Jimmers, I mean jammies, and then I rock and nurse him to sleep. I know you're not "supposed" to do that, you're "supposed" to let them fall asleep on their own, but I love my special alone time with him and if it works it works. I put him in his crib around 7:30pm. He usually wakes up once or twice during the night and fusses, but he quickly falls back asleep on his own. Around 3:30am he wakes up and cries incessantly so I go in and feed him. I know I say he sleeps through the night, and I consider 7:30pm-3:30am sleeping through the night - that's an 8 hour stretch which is soooo much better than the waking up every 1, 2, or 3 hours like he used to. I nurse him back to sleep at 3:30am and he wakes up for the day at 6:30am. So he's getting 11 hours of sleep and I'm getting about 8-9 hours of sleep a night with just one feeding at 3:30am. And I'm A-OK with that my friends! Still no daily nap schedule... we're working on that.

His eyes are still the most beautiful shade of gray/blue. I'm noticing a bit of hazel/brown around his irises... stay gray stay gray stay gray! But I'll love him no matter what color his eyes are :) And his hair is growing in much lighter than when he was born.

When he wakes up at 6:30am I hear "slam slam slam" on the baby monitor. He picks up his legs and slams them onto the mattress. It's quite funny. I sorta caught it on video, but he can definitely do it louder and harder than pictured:

He does this little cough and we can't tell if it's for reals or he just likes making the noise. We say "He has the black lung Pops!" (reference to Zoolander).

He laughs every day, multiple times a day, at various things. He laughs when he's tickled under the armpits, when we blow raspberries on his belly, when Chris juggles toys in front of him, when we wiggle his legs, when we make farty noises in his face, when I whisper sweet nothing in his ear, etc. It's the most endearing noise and it makes me so happy to see him so happy.

He still doesn't particularly enjoy tummy time, but he'll roll on to his stomach and sleep like that and be happy. Then when he wakes up and I go in to get him, I see him on his tummy peeking through the crib slats. LOL. We're gonna haveta lower the crib soon!

We sure do love you Mr. Fox! Can't believe you're a half year old already!

  8. "I got the black lung, Pop!" We say that all the time at my house! Also the part where he's saying, "Hello... hello" when they're teasing Miranda about not getting "earth to Miranda." Hilarious.

  10. Happy 6 months to Fox! To answer your question, yes, I perfer cloth diapers. They seem to bother Evie more when they're dirty, which is why they say kids in cloth diapers are potty trained earlier, which I believe. Also, I felt awful with the amount of trash we were generating with disposables. Plus, I'm cheap and we have enough cloth diapers for her until she's a year old and spent about $200. We can also save them for our next kid or two. That's alot cheaper than a year or two or three of disposables.

  11. One more thing. We haven't had a blowout yet with the cloth diapers and had multiple with the disposables. My friend who has used Bum Genie with her two daughters has never had a blowout either.

  14. Don't listen to people. They say your suppose to let them fall asleep on their own but when I was nursing, I'd rock him to sleep every night and he was fine. Then he cut me off. Didn't want to nurse so he had to learn to sleep on his own.
