The One with (Debbie Downer) Weather

Monday, September 16, 2013

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I'm blogging about the weather. Perhaps for the first time, ever?
It's just, after living in the perpetual sunshine state of California where I could wear shorts and flipflops year round and take the kids outside on a whim to get their kicks and jollies out for the past four years, and now I see THIS on my weather app:
Not gonna lie, it's making me depressed.
Sure, I'm "from" Seattle where it rains just as much, but technically I haven't lived there in a decade so by no means am I used to it. I'm used to SoCal sunshine!
It's been raining for two weeks straight today and there's no sign of it letting up any time soon. I'm in need of some great indoor activities.
Sorry for the Debbie Downer post. Who knew weather could have such a big impact on my mood?

  1. Oh just wait until winter hits. The cold and snow. I was a Debbie Downer last winter. It was LONG and COLD here on the western edge of Wisconsin! It was cold in October, as my kids had to wear winter coats. We had snow up til almost Mother's Day. May 2nd a snow day from school, three days added to the end of our school year because we exceeded the two they allot for. We don't get much sunshine either in the winter... lots and lots of gloomy days. So, I get it. Hang in there.

  2. Yep ... wait until the winter ... last winter we didn't see the sun for at least 30 days straight. No joke - no exaggeration. It was depressing!!! But, you learn to cope and find ways to deal with the cold and the snow and the dreariness. I am definitely a sunshine girl and it's taken a lot of adjustment living here with hardly any sunshine at all!!! You'll get used to it, sadly. :)

  8. I get it, my daughter was born in January so by Spring/Summer we were ready to take our walks, go to the park and even a few swim lessons once a week, and I just love seeing her chubby arms and legs with the cute warm weather outfits. Now that Fall is arriving I am already missing the fun outside activities, and Fall has always been my favorite season, oh well

  10. i used to feel that way before we moved to colorado. now i actually like the clouds and rain and snow! there's just something so cozy about it! like it's okay to stay in your pj's and read books in bed all day and have hot chocolate for breakfast lunch and dinner. embrace it! this past spring was the first time in my life that i was ever sad it was getting warmer. my whole life i have LIVED for summer. now? i really do like fall and winter too!

but really, the psych major in me has to ask... are you aware of SAD... seasonal affective disorder? because it's totally real. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder have fun exploring your indoor activity options!

  11. I feel your pain, Paige. I am Brazilian, living in Germany since 13 years... the gray and rainy days will last until (at least) March. Make yourself a cozy home and enjoy the perfect weather for scrapbooking :)
