Flower Ampersand Layout by Jamie Pate

Hey dear friends. It's Jamie Pate here and today I am excited to share with you a most recent layout for this blog.
You may or may not have noticed a bit of an obsession with yellow lately. I love to go through Paige's collections and pull single colors together. Today's layout was no exception. Except...well, I guess there is one exception... this layout has a big statement with that oh so beautiful Flower Ampersand cut file. Using Whimsical Paper 10, I cut the Flower Ampersand from the yellow ombre paper. Really love how the subtle change in color played out with this paper cut.

After the Flower Ampersand was cut, and still on the mat, I pulled the positive 12x12 paper off the mat. I laid it down on my white cardstock background. Then piece by piece, I adhered the negative pieces back in place, but making sure it was attached to the white background cardstock. This may be an obvious tip. Trust me on this. After removing the 12x12 positive part of the cut, I was then left with the ampersand pattern full of florals and what not on the background page. This took a bit to craft. But I thoroughly enjoyed the creative and therapeutic process. And I most especially love how beautiful this background turned out.

Staying with the yellow vibe, I pulled additional yellow embellishments from Whimsical. I layered the 'playful' Sticker with the yellow 'slide frame' also from that same Sticker set. I cut out the 'whimsical' word from Paper 18 as well as fussy cut flowers from Paper 07 and a heart from Paper 21. When adhering both the ampersand flower pieces as well as the embellishment cluster the attempt was to make these pieces appear like they are floating. I avoid adhering them flat. Using hot glue as well as dimensional pop dots helps create this technique.

Use a large cut file to make a big impact on your page. Embellish with the same colors in and around the photo. Remember to use patterned paper to fussy cut additional custom pieces that fit the vibe. And tell your story beautifully every time.
