iNSD Quilt-Inspired Layout by Audrey Mutschall

Wednesday, May 11, 2022

Hi everyone! Audrey Mutschall here today with here on Paige's blog today to share with you the layout I created for my challenge for International Scrapbook Day in Paige's Happy Scrappy Place Facebook Group!

The challenge I chose was QUILT-INSPIRED! I decided to paper-piece a quilt block pattern using lots of pretty papers from the Bloom Street collection. I started by cutting 3-inch squares from 16 different patterns of paper - most of the paper was from the 12x12 paper pad, but some of the patterns were from the Bloom Street Digital Collection. I kept the four corner pieces as whole squares and cut the other squares in half, forming two triangles. This allowed me to arrange the triangles into an 8-point star pattern, a popular quilt block pattern. I glued the squares and triangles onto a sheet of white cardstock and then got to work poking holes in a zigzag pattern along the seams. I drew a zigzag pattern in pencil, poked holes, and then erased the pencil before stitching. I used all six strands of an aqua/turquoise variegated embroidery floss (DMC 4040), which added extra color and texture to the layout. After the stitching was completed I added my photo which is mounted on vellum and patterned paper. I added sentiments from Paper 13 and a couple of embellishments from the ephemera die cuts to complete the layout.

Thanks for checking out my iNSD project! Be sure to visit Paige's Happy Scrappy Place Facebook Group for more fun challenges and projects!
