Grow Layout by Phil Donahue

Hello scrappy friends! Phil Donahue here back on Paige's blog with a pastel layout using her Butterfly Background from the 20 Spring Cut Files along with elements from her Blooming Wild collection! On this layout I featured four photos of my niece wearing a tye-dye dress and butterfly clips which coordinated perfectly with the cut file and colors from the collection!
To begin, I resized the Butterfly Background cut file to allow for a one-inch border on my background and cut it from white cardstock. Then I used the contour tool in Cricut Design Space to isolate one butterfly shape from the cut file. I copied it and fit about twenty-five on a 12x12 sheet of white cardstock and cut it. Keeping the shapes on my cutting mat, I painted Pastel Dreams watercolors to add cloudy tufts of yellow, mint, pink, and purple on each butterfly. This watercolor set coordinates perfectly with many of Paige's collections! After drying, I adhered each butterfly behind the cut file, only gluing in the center of the butterfly shape to allow for dimension and movement around the wings. For my background, I applied a thin layer of gesso to the butterflies Paper 16, leaving a one-inch border unpainted. Next, I added subtle splatters of watercolors around the page. The gesso faded the butterfly pattern in the center of the page so the cut file would pop while still allowing some to show around the border creating a fun flurry of butterflies on the layout! I tore and folded/crinkled edges from each side of the 12x12 paper and backed it with a mint patterned paper from the Blooming Wild Project Pad, which perfectly complemented the mint in the layout. Then I added foam adhesive squares to the backed cut file and adhered it to the center of the background paper. I layered my photos and matted them with tissue paper and scraps from the mint paper. I used a combination of Puffy Phrase Stickers, the Chipboard Alphabet Outlines, and a Chipboard Round to create my title. Final touches were Mini Flower Puffy Stickers scattered on the layout and title!
I hope you found some inspiration in this layout and choose to try Paige's 20 Spring Cut Files Bundle along with her Blooming Wild collection for your upcoming Spring projects! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
