Spring Tree Layout by Heidi Lewis

Hello friends, Heidi Lewis here and if you are anything like me, sometimes life cuts into your scrap time! Lately I've been loving quick and easy layouts. This layout featuring the Tree from the 19 Spring Cut Files and paper-pieced birds only took me an hour to make but still provides a wow factor with color and dimension!
The first step in making this layout is to punch one each of the following shapes from 8 sheets of double-sided patterned papers: 2.5 inch circle, 1 inch circle, and 1.75 inch triangle. If you don't have paper punches, consider using an electronic cutting machine, metal dies, or even tracing and hand-cutting your shapes. Get creative! If you want to copy my layout exactly, I used the following Splendid papers for my shapes: Paper 4, Paper 5, Paper 8, Paper 9, Paper 10, Paper 12, Paper 17, and Paper 18. I also punched (4) 7/16 inch squares from Paper 11 and cut them in half. The next step is to assemble the birds. I folded the 2.5-inch circles in half and secured the halves with a foam square to create the body of the birds. Then I folded the 1-inch circles in half to create the wings. I cut the bottom edge of the triangles with fringe scissors and then folded the triangles in half to create the tails. I used the B-sides of the papers for the bodies and the A-sides for the tails and wings. An Enamel Dot creates the eye while a small triangle creates the beak. The last step is to assemble the layout. I cut the Tree from white cardstock, placed the tree on a plain sky blue background, and arranged the birds on the tree. Then I added (1) 3x4 picture (2) 2x3 pictures as if they were hanging from the bottom branches of the tree. For embellishments, I layered flower Sequins over the flowers in the tree. A lemon branch Chipboard Sticker overlapping one of my photos fits oh-so-perfectly with the tree theme. The mini Thickers title finishes off the page.
If you are ever short on scrap time, minimalism is the way to go! But being minimalist doesn't mean you have to sacrifice colorful or dimensional design! I hope you feel inspired to check out Paige's 19 Spring Cut Files and Splendid collection!
