We received an envelope in the mail from the IRS today. Never a good sign. It was big. Never a good sign. It was heavy. Never a good sign. Opened it. Read it. Let the water works begin. Apparently I filed my 2007 taxes wrong and we owe a hefty chunk of change. Merry Christmas to us right? Haha. Apparently I have two investment accounts that I didn't account for. Who knew? Why they're contacting us about this now, almost two years later, the world may never know. Can't they cut us some slack, I mean, that was my very first time filing taxes myself!?! Luckily, I've saved every piece of tax info I've ever received and my dad has offered to help me out over the holidays.
The EXACT same thing happened to us last year. Fortunately, we had had our taxes prepared by someone else and they covered the difference since it was their error. But before we realized that, I looked into it and they will let you pay it back slowly if you have to. That is such a bummer, I am so sorry!
We feel your pain. It sucks. Good thing you kept all your tax info. Keep that up. Just pay what they say you owe and move on. You DON'T want the IRS after you. Crappy! So sorry.
yikes. i am SO sorry. and that is exactly why i will never attempt such a feat. good for you for at least trying. and good thing you have a smart/helpful dad to bail you out! :)
This happened to us a few years ago... we also forgot to report an investment account and owed a chunk of change. It was very demoralizing! My sympathy!
Oh, Lovely!!! It will be okay. Good news is that the IRS could probably work on something with you. :) Could I do something to make you feel better? Possibly call you and play some kind of pop song?!?! ;-)
