A Splendid Weekend Recap

Sunday, July 31, 2022

On Saturday & Sunday July 23rd & 24th Andrea and I taught our second in-person event here in Colorado called A Splendid Weekend!

We've been planning this event since our last one in November 2021 and have been counting down the days. What's better than one day of classes? TWO days of classes! And TWO bonus teachers!

As guests were flying in from out of town I put an open invite out there for anyone who wanted to stop by and see my happy scrappy place. I think 10 pals stopped in for a chat!

It was so fun to see friends I've met before and also meet new friends.

The next morning I got all my goodies packed and ready to go.

We got to the hotel at 7:30am to set up before doors opened at 9am.
A few months beforehand we planned a MemoryDex swap with everyone. I was cursing myself as I was stitching each and every layer of butterflies lol, but now that it's done and over with, I'm so glad we decided to do this swap!
We set out the trays and put our own cards in first.
As guests entered they put their cards into the trays and pretty soon they were stuffed to the brim with talent and creativity!
Andrea did a whole flip through of all the cards in her box:
Such a beautiful sight to behold!
At 9am the doors officially opened and all 56 friends trickled in, ready to scrap and learn!
Andrea brought her amazing collection of mini albums and she and Valorie set up another beautiful balloon arch photo op.
Here's me and my gal pals! These are my local scrappy buddies that have been by my side whenever I've needed them over the past 4 years. From left to right: Rosie, Isa, Valorie, me, JessicaAndrea, and Danielle. Love you all!
Jessica with Color Cast Designs and Jana from Simple Stories were our special bonus class teachers! AND Amber, the owner of Simple Stories, also attended for the weekend!
Friends with their custom Splendid Weekend nails.
My first class started at 10am! Let's do this!
I loved walking around seeing how people adapted or changed things to make the projects in their own style.
I spy Heidi from my past cut file team & Kelly all the way from Canada and currently on my team!
Pages in progress.
Scrapbook & Cards Today donated a free copy of the Spring 2022 issue to everyone! And, serendipitously, it's Andrea's layout on the cover!!
Jessica from Color Cast Designs made a custom acrylic piece for everyone - so cute!
Andrea and I both taught a layout class and a mini album class over the course of the two days. I'll be teaching my layouts class and mini album class virtually in case you missed out on August 13th! You can sign up for the layouts class HERE and the mini album class HERE.
There were a few things that we can improve on for next time as with any big event, but overall I feel like it was a success :)
We snapped a group photo! I think around 7 people are missing so we had quite the amazing group!!
We can't wait to do it all again in November! That's right! Join us on Saturday & Sunday November 19th & 20th for Garden Shoppe Weekend! Click HERE for all the details and to register!
We had a SPLENDID time at A Splendid Weekend! Thank you to each and every person that came from near and far to attend. We hope to see you again soon and scrap together!

Summer Cut File 24 of 24: Sunglasses

The 24th and last of the 24 Days of Summer Cut Files was just sent out and here are 2 layouts made with today's Sunglasses Cut File!

Design Team Member Audrey Mutschall created this stinkin' cute layout! She says, "Today's Sunglasses Cut File is very versatile because you can fit photos/journaling/embellishments into the lenses of the sunglasses! I used this cut file to document photos of each of my kids wearing sunglasses from three different occasions. I used white cardstock for the cut file and filled each pair of sunglasses with two coordinating photos for a total of six photos. I backed the sunglasses using paper from a variety of digital collections including Pick-Me-UpHorizon, and Oh My Heart. I placed the cut file onto the right side of a woodgrain paper background and filled in the left side with horizontally arranged strips of paper. I used a variety of paper collections and distressed the edges before adhering them to the background. Next, I took a strip of paper from a cut-apart patterned paper and used it as a border between the left and right sides of the layout. I embellished the left side with chipboard stickers and a fussy cut sun from the Truly Grateful digital collection. The right side is embellished with puffy stars and a few Epoxy Stickers from the Splendid collection. I hope this inspires you to document your summer memories with this adorable Sunglasses Cut File!"

Design Team Member Valerie Bisson created this amazing and artistic layout! She says, "For this page I used today's Sunglasses Cut File and Paige's Splendid collection with some photos out of my archives of my husband and I on our 1st anniversary back in 1989. I started by cutting the cut file at 10” in height and also cut an offset layer from white cardstock. Papers used for the cut file include Paper 1Paper 5, Paper 8, and Paper 10. For my background I used Paper 14 with both sides pieced together. After the cut file was all backed I decided to go ahead and do some hand stitching along with a bit of string art in the lenses of the glasses then placed my photos in the center. I popped it all up on the page with dimensional adhesive. To embellish and add a title to my page I used word phrases from Paper 22 and pieces from the Sequins & Enamel ShapesEpoxy StickersChipboard Stickers, pieces from the 8-Page Sticker BookCardstock StickersWashi Tape, and Thickers. That completes my page and I hope you have a wonderful crafty day!"

Saturday, July 30, 2022

The 23rd of the 24 Days of Summer Cut Files was just sent out and here is a layout made with today's Vacation Memories Cut File!

Design Team Member Ashley Neu created this cute page! She says, "I used today's Vacation Memories Cut File and Paige's Splendid collection to document some cute photos from an Easter trip we took. I used the colorful striped Paper 21 from the collection to back the cut file and used Paper 4 which is this beautiful purple floral paper for the background which I softened with white acrylic paint. I embellished with flower Chipboard Stickers, "EASTER" made with the gold Thickers, and a few bits from the 8-Page Sticker Book. I just love how this layout turned out!"

Summer Cut File 22 of 24: Tropical Drinks

The 22nd of the 24 Days of Summer Cut Files was just sent out and here is a layout made with today's Tropical Drinks Cut File!

Design Team Member Jennifer Rambert created this stunning page! She says, "I wanted to go into the tropical summer zone for this layout so I used colorful patterned papers from the Splendid collection to fill in the coconuts from today's Tropical Drinks Cut File! Then I made a blue background with Distress Oxides and added golden touches for a shimmering effect. I curved the title made with Thickers around my design and  embellished with Floral Die CutsEpoxy Stickers, and pieces from the 8-Page Sticker Book."

She's Plotting Again Layout by Missy Whidden

Hi friends! Missy Whidden here with a new layout featuring Paige’s Splendid collection. I wanted to start with the Washi Tapes so I created long strips creating a rainbow color scheme. I stuck the tapes to smooth white cardstock and then cut them and distressed the edges. I glued and machine stitched the strips to Paper 2. I love that bold pink paired with all the colored tapes! I smudged a little bit of white gesso over areas of the tape and then added a small amount of blue, green, and yellow Shimmerz sprays behind and above the top photo. To add fun texture, I used a palette knife to scrape texture paste down and then pressed tiny beads into it. I repeated this at the bottom of the page as well as around the title area. I splattered white acrylic paint to create those bold white dots.

These Washi Tapes are so bright and fun! It’s really easy to make strips. I positioned the strips close to each other but I left just enough wiggle room to bend up the edges to let the pink paper show through. I used several Chipboard Sticker flowers and circles here on the strips - I scattered them around but kept the stickers on the coordinating color of tape.

I created a cluster here for the title. I first fussy cut the large XO from the 12x12 Paper Pad. I fussy cut a few blue flowers from patterned paper and the 8-Page Sticker Book to layer around as well as a bigger Chipboard Sticker flower. I used the colorful mini foam Thickers for the title to describe my mischievous daughter’s face (LOL) and then nestled in a few more stickers from the 8-Page Sticker Book. I tucked in blue and yellow threads for added color and texture. I used an Epoxy Stickers and added more of the tiny beads. I used a white pen for my journaling and it shows up really well on the dark pink paper!

I layered white tissue paper and a bit of paper from the 12x12 Paper Pad behind the photos. Here you can see the awesome texture from the tiny beads and texture paste. These small flowers here are from the 8-Page Sticker Book.

I hope this sparks some ideas for you on how you can use the Washi Tape! They are a lot of fun and there are a lot of possibilities of what you can do with them. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Summer Cut File 21 of 24: Mountains Are Calling

Thursday, July 28, 2022

The 21st of the 24 Days of Summer Cut Files was just sent out and here is a mini album made with today's The Mountains Are Calling Cut File!

Design Team Member Kelly Daye created this whimsical mini album! She says, "Today’s cut file is 'The Mountains Are Calling Cut File’ and I made a mini album about our trip aboard The Rocky Mountaineer. We traveled by train from Banff to Vancouver over three days. It was pure luxury and you can hear more of the details in my flip-thru on YouTube today! With the exception of a couple of spreads, I’ve used Paige’s gorgeous Splendid collection throughout and a few of her cut files too. The cover was made with today's cut file and backed with papers from a number of Paige's collections. It’s one of the things I love most about Paige’s collections: they all have elements that coordinate seamlessly. What’s unique about my cover today is the cut file was cut from a darker paper! I most often cut from white cardstock but thought I'd try something new! I like the slate color of Paper 1 along with the pretty pink gingham of Paper 12. I also stitched on the sequins with Black DMC Floss. I think the black helps all the colors pop. What do you think?

The first spread includes a pocket to hold some fun and pretty things. I used the Cross Stitch Kit to record the date, check it all out in my video.
The second spread features colorful, hand stitched letters I fussy cut from Paper 14. I love how they pop off the B&W background of Paper 13. I made all the rosettes from Splendid papers and added round photos on top.
Paper 18, with its school book rule and little red typewriter, was great for journaling. A pretty slice of cake was perfect because this was a birthday trip from Jim. How adorable is the teeny tiny fork? On the left, I used Paige’s Envelope Cut File to hold two mini tag albums. The tags are from the Ephemera Die Cuts and the photos were cut in the same shape. The background is pretty Paper 1. A floral Chipboard Sticker and sentiment Epoxy Sticker tie it all together nicely.
Have you ever used a photo as an entire page? It’s new for me and I love the impact it made. I went into the vault for the background paper on the adjacent page. It’s from Paige’s Oh My Heart Digital Collection and the ephemera is from Splendid. I think they’re really fun together. Can you spot the Washi Tape in the mix?
My last spread features Bighorn sheep we spotted at this gorgeous lake. The photos sit upon the acetate specialty paper from Oh My Heart. The aqua arrows are from the Epoxy Stickers. Last but not least, another Paige Evans cut file: Wild and Free. I made flowers with the Acrylic Stamps (awesome, you’ll never run out!) and added Cardstock Sticker butterflies. Here’s something pretty to try: I saved the inner W, D, and R when I made the cut file from white cardstock, then added clear stickers on top from the 8-Page Sticker Book instead of using patterned paper. I love them so much! The album is held together with a binder ring on which I added a fun tassel and Flower Charm.
So long for now, I hope you got an idea or two for your own Splendid mini using today's Mountains Are Calling Cut File!"
