Quilted Butterfly Cards by Kelly Daye

Friday, April 10, 2020

Hello friends, it’s Kelly Daye with four spring cards I’ve made using Bloom Street. This is a time to stay connected with family and friends near and far and having all this time at home allows for creating something special from the heart to sent along. I designed these cards with Paige’s Floral Butterfly cut file. One side of the cut file is an ornate floral butterfly while the other side is a solid butterfly.
I planned a trifold card with the first fold being the ornate floral side of the cut file and the second fold is left plain white for a message. The card sits open and reveals a quilted and stitched butterfly with XO letters from the Whimsical Foam Mini Thickers.
To make the pretty toppers for the front of my cards, I sliced the cut file in half in Silhouette Studio and then cut out the floral butterfly from four different colours of AC Cardstock. All are from their Pastel Collection. I backed each with vellum that was tinted with Archival Inks that coordinated with the paper on each card. The card base was also cut in Silhouette Studio using white cardstock.
The butterfly on the inside of the cards was made from the solid side of the cut file, then ‘quilted’ with modeling paste and Paige’s Doily Stencil. Then I chain stitched each one with all six strands of white DMC thread. The result reminded me of a damask quilt, hence the name of this project. Each was then topped off with a spray of flowers from the Floral Die Cuts.
I hope you’ve been inspired to use some of Paige’s cut files in new ways for your own pretty projects. Until next time, stay well friends!

  2. Love this card! Can you tell me a little more about it:
What is the size of the base card?
How is the front (fancy) butterfly attached to the card stock?
