Glow Layout by Heidi Lewis

Hi friends, it’s Heidi Lewis here on the blog today sharing a starry sky layout that captures my family tradition of looking at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve. I learned the technique of paper piecing in Paige’s House & Hearts virtual layout class, but instead of making a house, I paper pieced a winter wonderland scene with Sugarplum Wishes.
I started this layout by creating a fun rainbow background for my scene. First, I cut out the Starry Sky from the 25 Christmas Cut Files 2019 from light blue cardstock and backed it with Paper 12. Then I ripped a piece of white cardstock from my scrap paper bin to make a snowbank. I punched Circles in a variety of sizes from Paper 5. You could also use a cutting machine or nesting dies to achieve the same effect, but I love the convenience of paper punches! Next, I arranged my circles into snowpersons, or alternatively inflatable yard decorations. I had fun embellishing each snowperson into a different character, namely Mrs. Claus, a baby penguin, Rudolph, and Santa. Mrs. Claus is sporting an Ephemera Die Cut bow, Sticker mittens, a Washi Tape scarf, and Enamel Dot buttons. I used a Foam Sticker penguin and a sweater Sticker to create the baby penguin. How cute is the Mini Puffy Sticker bow tie! Rudolph features acrylic antlers from my stash, ricrac Sticker arms, a ribbon scarf, and Enamel Dot buttons. I love how my Santa Claus figure is holding a present with Washi Tape arms. A Mini Puffy Sticker bow and Cardstock Sticker stars add a whimsical touch to Santa. Once all my snowpersons were finished, I tucked a 4-inch photo between Rudolph and Santa and completed my winter wonderland scene with additional yard ornaments and trees. I found the perfect photo to go with my layout, a colorful yard we visited on Christmas Eve that even features an inflatable penguin and Santa! Sweet serendipity! I actually used a Blooming Wild Puffy Phrase Sticker to make my title, but I utilized the Sugarplum Wishes Mini Thickers to document my date.
I hope you feel inspired to try the Starry Sky from the 25 Christmas Cut Files 2019 and Sugarplum Wishes to make a wintery scene!
