Fabulous Fourth Layout by Phil Donahue

Thursday, June 19, 2025

Hello scrappy friends! Phil Donahue here back on the blog sharing a Fourth of July inspired layout featuring Paige's gorgeous new Happy Haven collection! This layout features a couple of cute photos of my niece celebrating the holiday in pretty gingham dress!
To begin, I sought out Paper 7 because the blue gingham background perfectly matched the dress from the photos. I cut a ditzy floral paper from the 12x12 Project Pad to a 10x10 square, distressed the edges, and added it to the blue gingham paper. Next, I cut squares in various sizes from Paper 4 (both sides accented the layout perfectly) to create pinwheels to scatter around the page. This technique shows both sides of a paper so it's essential both patterns fit the theme and/or color scheme of the layout. To make a pinwheel, simply cut each corner into the center leaving about an inch of space in the middle of the square then fold and adhere each corner to the middle. I added pink enamel dots from my stash to the center of each and trimmed the excess hanging off the page. Next I added my photos to the center of the page, layering ephemera from the Journaling Die Cuts behind, added adhesive foam, and glued it to the center of the 12x12 background. Lastly, I created my title using an acrylic word and gold alphas from my stash. I hope you found some inspiration in this layout and choose to try Paige's Happy Haven collection and make some pinwheels with both sides of your favorite patterned papers! Thanks for stopping by!
