Hi creative friends! Monique Lowe here sharing a new layout using Paige’s beautiful new Happy Haven collection and her Flower Borders cut file.
To start, I tore a broad strip of pretty Paper 3. This patterned paper has such a sweet, stitched design that I couldn’t resist getting out my embroidery needle and thread! I used 3 strands of embroidery thread instead of my usual 6, as the pattern is very delicate. I stitched across 10 sections in a rainbow of colors, alternating rows with tiny seed beads to add some fun texture. It was such a relaxing and satisfying process – definitely worth the time. For my background, I used a sheet of mixed media cardstock and added a soft watercolor wash. I matched the colors to my embroidery, giving the illusion of the rainbow flowing down from the stitched strip into the background. Once dry, I added a few coordinating paint splatters for extra interest and then stencilled a delicate tone-on-tone pattern using Distress Oxides Inks, keeping the look dreamy and cohesive. I adhered the embroidered strip along the top edge of my background and tucked one half of the Flower Borders cut file just underneath it for a subtle layered effect. I backed my photo with two floral prints and layered torn pieces of Paper 9. Using foam squares, I placed the photo right where the mixed media and stitching meet. I embellished using Floral Die Cuts in a tone-on-tone style, creating both vertical and horizontal cascades of flowers around my photo. A few Mini Puffy Stickers form a visual triangle around my photo, with a couple Foam Stickers and a butterfly Cardstock Sticker to add charm and balance. For my title I used a large word sticker paired with a sentiment from the Journaling Die Cuts, then finished everything off with a scattering of sequins along the vertical line of the layout. Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope this layout inspires you to mix stitching, mixed media, and pretty layers from the Happy Haven collection in your next project.
