Right Now Layout by Jamie Pate

Happy New Year, friends. Jamie Pate here, and as this is my first post of the new year on Paige's blog, I wanted to wish you all a wonderful New Year full of beautiful stories and inspiring creativity. Today's layout is the first of many layouts for an album I will be keeping about me this year. That may sound a little egocentric. Seems to me we can forget to tell our own story. There are many thoughts running through my mind at present. I want to use the creative outlet of scrapbooking and story telling to put those ideas out there. This layout will actually be part of a two-page spread. The second unseen page is the journaling that goes with the story of Right Now. But let's talk about this page, shall we?
The page started out not at all how it finished. Isn't that just the way of it? I am loving hexagon shapes right now, so I used Paige's Honeycomb Background cut file as a starting place for this layout and story. The page base is textured white cardstock. The Honeycomb Background, also cut in white, allows for a subtle background of white on white and shape. The inside of the Honeycomb Background pieces were used to cut patterned papers into hexagon shapes. These I popped up and added in a vertical line. Really like all these patterns working together, but not overwhelming the page.

Using Paige's Mini Envelope cut file, I wanted a place that I thought originally was going to hold hidden journaling. But the envelope, being mini, even though I upsized it a bit, was not really conducive to this idea. But... I wanted that envelope to play on on my page. Popping it up and overlapping the hexagon shapes, I used it as a bit of a focal piece with tags and journal spots and words coming out of it. Plus, it's an anchor for the title.

The title Right Now was a serendipity. As I was gathering embellishments I knew I wanted to be part of this page, I had forgotten this was part of the Epoxy Stickers. It was perfect for titling this page and what will be the journaling. I want to inventory me right now. While the color of the phrase was a little bold, I think it plays nicely with the other hues and patterns of the layout, and brings the whole page together. One just needs play around with color and ideas until the page says this is good.

Truly Grateful was a great collection for crafting this page. I really love the pinks and salmons found in the collection. The patterns play so beautifully together. Keeping the background monochromatic allows the collection to tell this story in a delightful way. And telling our stories is just what this wonderful craft is all about. See you next time.
