Butterfly Mini Album by Amber Mitchell

Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Hello crafty friends, Amber Mitchell here on Paige's blog today to share with you this shaped mini album I created using the Oh My Heart Digital Collection and the Butterfly Half cut file.

Creating shaped mini albums is one of my favorite things. I love how eye-catching and interactive they are. Not to mention they usually turn out cute! And although creating a shaped album might seem tricky, using cut files as a base for minis like this really simplifies the process.

To start this project, I first resized the Butterfly Half cut file in my Cricut software to measure about 4.5" in height. I then used white, 65lb weight cardstock to cut the front of the mini album out. For the backing of the cover, as well as for the other pages, I used various patterned papers from the Oh My Heart Digital Collection. Digital collections are a great option when it comes to wanting to work with older, but still loved, collections!

To add texture to the project, I machine stitched with light blue thread along the edges of all of the pages, including the cover. I then stacked the pages on top of one another and stitched down the center of the body of the butterfly to hold them in place. This allows for the wings of the butterfly to be used and flipped through as pages, which I think is extra fun!

With the base complete, I moved on to embellishing. I used a mix of old and new products to do this. I first print and cut die cuts from the Oh My Heart Digital Collection using my Cricut. I used scrap papers to make photo mats that measured 2" square and layered these with those die cuts.

To further embellish this mini, I took some wood veneer pieces from the Take Me Away and Turn the Page collections as well as the Puffy Word Stickers from Bloom Street. I love how all of these pieces from different collections blended so well together!

To make the cover of this mini pop, I added a handful of 3D flowers that I created using different Rolled Flower cut files to it. And last but not least, a few stickers here and there from the 30-page Paige Evans #StickerBook really tied everything together!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I'll see you next time with another fun project!
