Ice Tossing Adventure Layout by Missy Whidden

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Hello again, friends! Missy Whidden here with a new layout featuring the beautiful Horizon collection. I was inspired to use the Washi Tape for two reasons—first, I hadn’t used it all yet. Second, I really love the color scheme. I started by covering a big chunk of white cardstock with strips of the Washi Tape. Once it was filled up, I used a 1 ½" circle punch to create lots of circles. I was also inspired by Paper 11 which has all those colorful globes on it. My punch was the perfect size to create even more circles from that paper. I spent lots of time trying to configure the circles and finally decided to create rows under the photo. Yes, that’s my little Paige throwing ice into the pool… one of her favorite activities… haha!
I used Paper 20 as my background. I wanted to add in more of that periwinkle blue and lime green color so I tore some pieces from Paper 10 and Paper 21 and added them to the top. I smudged white gesso onto the background so I could add in some mixed media. I used a combination of Distress Oxides and Shimmerz spray inks to create a watercolor effect with some plastic packaging. I also added in a lot of splatters. I wanted to showcase all those beautiful colors in the circles so I created a few rows of circles under the photo. I topped a few of them with Stickers and Epoxy Stickers. I also machine stitched through all the rows with metallic gold thread.

I mixed and matched my title using a Chipboard Sticker and the navy Mini Foam Thickers from the Pick-Me-Up collection. I layered in a Floral Die Cut and a floral Chipboard Sticker under the left of the photo. I added a pop of dark blue with tangled thread. I layered a punched circle on top of the open space of the photo. That phrase fits my child so well lol.

I wanted to echo the circles on the upper left side of the page, so I adhered a few of the punched circles. I topped the cluster off with a floral Sticker and leaves from the Floral Die Cuts. I really love this deep pink mixed with purple and periwinkle. That pop of purple is from the Epoxy Stickers. Here you can also see the rolled up edges of the patterned paper which instantly creates dimension.

I hope this inspires you to give the Washi Tape a try on your next layout! It’s fun to create your own embellishments or new elements to create a background. Be sure to check out my process video down below for all the details! Have a marvelous day!
