Happiness Layout by Shimelle

Hello crafty friends! Shimelle here, and I'm very excited that it's my very favourite month: October! Bring on autumn colours, pumpkin everything, and Halloween! I almost always use lots of colours in my Halloween projects rather than just orange and black. The rainbow of Paper 21 from Go the Scenic Route with Paige's Pumpkins Background cut file just makes my heart so October happy!

I started by cutting the Pumpkins Background cut file from white cardstock, then removing the interior cut lines in Silhouette Studio and cutting a second time from Paper 21. Those two layered to create the bold background, and all of it is adhered with foam tape to lift it from the blue ombre background of Paper 15. Usually I turn ombre papers so the darkest shade is at the bottom of the page, but in this case I turned it around so the bottom right corner would keep the contrast of light and dark blue between the pumpkins and the background.

Then to work on the foreground! The photo has layers of green (Paper 5), white (Paper 14), and orange (Paper 7) in a small paper stack mat, and everything else builds out from there, including pieces from the Ephemera Die Cuts for tabs and journaling spaces, plus ticket stubs cut from Paper 17. I loved how the slide frame die cut repeats the rainbow patterned paper but in a tiny scale, so definitely wanted to use those two together. Originally I thought I might use the larger Thickers for my title, but on layering the foreground onto the pumpkins, I was already using a great deal of the page space. A big title felt like it might be hard to read or make it hard to tell what the background signified. I wanted to see all those colourful pumpkins for sure! So I switched gears for a smaller title with the Puffy Phrase Thickers. They remain easy to read because the white border around each word makes it super clear even on a layered page.

To finish the details, I added a few puffy hearts and circles from the Puffy Phrase Thickers, and also some of the beautiful Enamel Dots from this collection. (They are my absolutely favourite and I keep finding I want to save them instead of use them! Time to break open that pack!) And then a final sprinkle of gold mist added that last bit of autumn to my rainbow pumpkin patch!

Thanks for stopping by today and I'd love to know something - do you like to keep your Halloween page colours to just orange and black or do you embrace the spectrum of colour for your spooky memories??!
