The One with American Crafts Valentine Cards and a Layout

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Here are some cards I made for the February issue of CARDS using the new I Heart You line by American Crafts.

Love Note
Card is 4 ½ x 5”

Some tidbits:
1) I freehand cut the heart shaped base from yellow cardstock then adhered ribbon around the back edge to create a li'l ruffle.
2) I made three flower embellishments by punching a scalloped circle from cardstock, a smaller circle from patterned paper, and topped it with a piece of Flair. Don't forget the ribbon bows!

Cardstock, patterned paper, ribbon, badges, pen: American Crafts; Scalloped circle punch, circle punch: Fiskars

Love
Card is 4 ¼ x 5 ½”

Some tidbits:
1) I do love a good tree card. I could make tree cards for the rest of my life and be a happy girl.
2) I cut a trunk from brown cardstock, added some "bark" details with a brown pen, and created the top of the tree from an assortment of all the embellishments in the I Heart You line: rub ons, stamps, stickers, chipboard, etc.
3) Don't forget the ribbon bow! I put them on 99% of the cards I make :)

Cardstock, patterned paper, ribbon, heart rub ons, chipboard hearts (glitter, patterned, plain), stickers (hearts, letters), heart stamps, pens: American Crafts; Corner rounder: Fiskars

Please Bee Mine
Card is 3 ¼” across

Some tidbits:
1) This is one of my favorite rub ons ever so I wanted to make a card based around it.
2) Even after adding my signature ribbon bow, it felt incomplete so I added a trio of jewel brads. Done! Simple and sweet.

Cardstock, jewel brads, ribbon, rub on: American Crafts; Scalloped circle punch: Marvy Uchida; Circle cutter: Martha Stewart Crafts

XOX
Card is 4 x 5 ½”

Some tidbits:
1) I cut a window from a pink card base, cut a scrap of cardstock just larger than the window then covered that scrap cardstock with rows of ribbon. Then I adhered the ribbon card to the back of the window.
2) I hand stitched a border around the ribbon window and added two patterned chipboard "x"s with a piece of Flair between to make the sentiment.

Cardstock, ribbon, badge, patterned chipboard letter stickers: American Crafts; Floss: DMC; Needle: Dritz

My box of handmade cards is overflowing. I'm thinking of maybe putting them on Etsy. I dunno. It's a toughy.

And here's a layout I made for Scrapbook Trends February called The One with Blogging.

Some tidbits:
1) I used a dinner plate as a template, traced along the edge with a pencil, the journaled on the curve.
2) I've wanted to make something with that "I Love Blogs" piece of Flair ever since I laid eyes on it. Mission accomplished.

Cardstock: American Crafts (blues), Scenic Route Paper Co. (kraft); Patterned paper, jewel brads, badge, letter stickers, pen: American Crafts; Felt flowers: American Crafts, Creative Café; Lace: Craft supply; Scalloped border punch: Fiskars

I've got one more scrappy post tomorrow (I think), then I'll change it up. Maybe. Possibly. We'll see.
:)
