Oh What a Day Layout

Tuesday, April 23, 2019

Here is one of the layouts I taught how to make at Crop & Create in Winnipeg featuring Whimsical.
I traced a large heart with a pencil onto a white cardstock background and then pooled a lot of water over it. While the water was still very wet, I dropped Pastel Dreams watercolors into it, letting the colors blend together but also trying to keep them separate and distinct. I also splashed the watercolors around the same places where I dropped it into the water and then set the layout aside to dry - no help from a hair dryer!
Once dry, I arranged the flower and leaves from the Floral Die Cuts all around the heart, leaving a gap on the right side for a bit of journaling later. I placed the largest flowers first, followed by the medium sized flowers, with the smallest flowers on top, finishing with the leaves tucked in here and there. I varied using flat and dimensional adhesive to create depth and shadows.
I used a photo of me and Jane and added it to the left side overlapping the flowers and placed an "oh what a day" Puffy Sticker at the top. I tucked a gold scalloped Sticker under the left edge of the photo, wrote journaling with a black pen in the gap on the right, and added a "love this" Puffy Sticker below.
Look carefully and you'll notice three butterfly Ephemera Die Cuts in between the flowers - use adhesive only on the middles to let the wings bend up. To finish, I added three butterfly Puffy Stickers, a couple sentiment Puffy Stickers, and flower Puffy Stickers into the floral heart design.
I hope this layout inspires you to check out my Whimsical collection and to get crafty with your watercolors!
