Purple Hair Don't Care Layout

Saturday, April 20, 2019

Hey everyone! I'm happy to pop in today to share a new layout made with my Horizon collection and the Project Pad found exclusively in JoAnn stores featuring hand and machine stitched butterfly trails, fussy cutting, and lots of purple!
Check out the process video to see how this page came together:

I started by having my Silhouette Cameo 3 draw and pierce the trails. If you would like the cut file send me an email :) I then did a chain link stitch with all six strands of white DMC embroidery floss through the trails - it took about two hours to complete the hand stitching.
Like the tree & leaves layout I made recently, I cut offset butterfly trails to use as a mask and then added some mixed media to the background in the form of watered down white acrylic paint and Prima watercolors. I love the texture and extra element of color this step adds.
Once the background dried, I machine stitched butterfly trails around the hand stitched ones, using different colors of thread every time so I used yellow, pink, light purple, blue, and light pink. Yay for even more texture!
Next I fussy cut several butterflies, moths, and dragonflies from Paper 07 whilst watching The Grand Tour with Chris on the couch :) Yay for multitasking! I ended up having the perfect amount - no leftovers and I didn't need to cut out more! I added the butterflies over the stitched trails, lightly adhered them in place, and then machine stitched over them with white thread. I bent up all the wings to add dimension.
I printed a strip of three photos to look like a photobooth strip and added it between the stitched trails. With so much happening on the layout already, I didn't add too much more. I created the title with the Horizon Thickers placed over Washi Tape strips and machine stitched over the letters twice to make them stay in place permanently.
I journaled with a white pen inside the bottom right loop and placed two stickers from the Project Pad under the right edge of the photo strip to finish. If you break it down into steps, this layout is pretty simple and fun to create!
I hope you are inspired to create a fun and funky page with hand and machine stitched trails using my Horizon collection and the Project Pad found exclusively in JoAnn stores! Thanks for stopping by today - heart you all!
