Our Home Mini Album by Kelly Daye

Thursday, October 3, 2019

Hello friends, it’s Kelly Daye and I am so happy to be here sharing a mini album today I made with Truly Grateful! As you know, Paige’s mini albums are legendary, always pretty and super inspiring too. So when her brand new Bookbinding Tool was available, I ordered mine immediately. Truth is, this was my very first album and I started over once, so maybe it’s actually my second album, ha!
I finally decided on ‘Our Home’ as my theme and chain stitched a cover using Paper 09 to back the letters. The ‘O’ in HOME is a 2x2 Swatch topped with Puffy Phrase Stickers.

I used the gorgeous Paper 10 for the base of the album cover because of the rainbow leaves, I just love them! My entire album is gilded with a gold touch. There’s gold stitching, gold foil matting around photos, gold glitter borders, and gold splatters. Repeating an element over and over lends a nice flow to my album.

I’ve always loved wrapping gifts and decided my mini album would be cute if stored in an equally creative box. I started with a simple lid made from Paper 12. I cut Paige’s Doily Mandala cut file in white cardstock as a pretty background. I had the centre of Paper 08 left over from a previous layout and used it to cut out a heart. After hand stitching it with a rainbow of sequins, I surrounded my heart with Layered Butterflies and Floral Die Cuts. Did you notice the tiny blue paper quilled leaves? Something new I’m trying.

I also lined the inside of the box with pretty Paper 15 and added an Epoxy Sticker banner that says, “it’s a long story”, ha!  Shopping for this house was a long, three year adventure :)

Here’s a peek at a few of my favourite details.  This page in my album was made with Paper 02. I added a couple of index tabs to Jim’s photo as a little detail. The page opposite says it all, "LOVE"! That’s another 2x2 Swatch topping the Petals Background cut file. I’ve fashioned the colourful square beneath it from strips of Truly Grateful, scraps from previous projects. You can find a short tutorial for it at my YouTube channel.

The flowers in my garden are usually pink, white, violet, and yellow. But there’s no telling what I’ll buy when I get to a garden centre, I kind of lose my mind :) The centre of my album is made with Paper 06. Don’t you love the colours in the chevron pattern?! Glorious!

I made a folding album and enclosed it in the Rounded Envelope cut file, made from Paper 19. I wanted the photo mats to be interesting without adding extra bulk, so I added a simple running stitch with coloured and gold thread. This stitch works well because it’ll look pretty from both sides. The envelope interior is decorated with more flowers. The pretty Tassel Paper Clip is from Paige’s Whimsical Collection.

I think this might be my favourite page. I’ve wanted to use the Folded Circle cut file for some time. Here, I used a multitude of scraps to make a 5x5 grid to cover the whole page. I topped it off with a photo of our house and a couple of pieces of Ephemera Die Cuts. The opposite page neatly holds two shaker tags beneath a belly band. I used 3x4 cellophane product bags.

Then I tucked in my photo and sequins from the collection. I topped both off with index tags and word stickers. That we are! Thanks so much for coming by!
