May 2026 Highlights

Monday, June 1, 2026

Here is a recap of our May 2026 which definitely lived up to the hype of being my favorite month because of our anniversary, Mother's Day, and my birthday! Plus so much more good stuff happened! For example, WE MET GILLIAN ANDERSON & DAVID DUCHOVNY!
I'll recap this a bit later on.
Here is photo proof of my paranoia and stress trying to keep our baby birds alive. Stupid magpies kept flying right onto the sconce where the nest is, but I couldn't just stand and monitor, so I set up a makeshift table for weeding cut files going into kits for Crafted Moments Weekend to keep an eye on the situation.
This last of the four baby birds in this batch to leave the nest sure caused me a lot of grief. I had the garage door open so I could run outside and ward off the mean magpies at the drop of a hat. This baby bird actually flew into the garage after finally leaving the nest and went up into a hole in the ceiling above the garage door. I had to get a ladder and go up and scare it out and it flew around, right back into the hole! I climbed back up, scared it out, and eventually it flew over onto our shoe rack and I was able to safely capture it and actually put it right back into the nest. It flew away again less than an hour later and I wish it a happy life!
This is me after that ordeal of saving the baby bird.
A couple weeks later another pair of house finches built up the same nest and laid 4 eggs. This was the 13th batch so it's no wonder that about 1.5 weeks into sitting on the eggs the mama unexplainably left and never came back. That's never happened before and made me so sad and anxious.
My mom was planning to fly out on May 6th to watch the kids while Chris and I went to Orlando for our 19th anniversary, but a big snowstorm was predicted so she changed her flight to arrive the day before.
It snowed a LOT and FINALLY the school district called a snow day! The one and only snow day, just a few weeks before the last day of school, and in May no less which is very late in the year for so much snow. Cray cray!
We picked up Grandma and went to the mall. She was so happy when she found these micro trends.
I always love to try the newest flavors of Red Bull. This one was alright but not worth the sugar so it was a one and done for me.
The next morning Chris and I flew to Orlando! I did a full separate post for our 19th anniversary trip which you can read HERE.
One more pic from our anniversary trip :)
Back at home, we had one more night with Malm/Grandma. This was a first for Amy, she's so silly.
After Mother's Day (that's the Colorado rule of thumb!) I went to Costco and got flowers. I got smart and left them in their buckets instead of planting them.
Margi had her 75th birthday so we went over to their house to celebrate.
On May 28th I turned 41 years young!
Thankful, grateful, blessed!
I got myself Taco Bell for my birthday lunch because I love love love it.
I find so many things while aimlessly scrolling on Facebook. This time it was an ad to see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson at the Fan Expo in Denver! SIGN US UP! Our son is named Fox, literally from Fox Mulder on the X-Files. We had to take Fox to meet his namesake (well, the actor who portrayed Fox anyway.) I bought us all X-Files t-shirts on Amazon and on May 30th we put them on and took a selfie!
We drove to the Colorado Convention Center and made our way into the building along with throngs of other fans.
We have never been to anything like this before. Actors literally on display that you pay to meet!
I mean, that's THE Gillian Anderson RIGHT THERE!
All of the big-name actors from The X-Files were there including Annabeth Gish (her character Agent Monica Reyes was on the final seasons).
Nicholas Lea AKA Agent Alex Krycek.
There were a lot of other actors there as well such as Bryce Dallas Howard.
Cara Buono, best known for portraying Mama Karen Wheeler on Stranger Things.
Pauly Shore. "Stop wheezing the ju-uice."
Ralph Macchio! THE KARATE KID!
He was the first one we actually got in line for and paid to get pics with.
Chris doing the crane LOL. Ralph was oh-so nice.
Never would I have had this moment or really any of today on my life BINGO card!
Josh Holloway, AKA Sawyer from LOST.
He was really really nice. I'm glad Chris doesn't get awkward around celebrities and does most of the talking.
Then we met the Cigarette Smoking Man!! I was finally able to tell someone that we have a son named Fox!
And there is the man, the myth, the legend, Fox Mulder. I mean, David Duchovny. We had an appt to take an official picture with him and Gillian a bit later so we didn't pay for a selfie here.
Mitch Pileggi AKA Assistant Director Walter Skinner. Everyone was so nice, it was so cool.
Another big draw for this event was all of the actors who played the hobbits on Lord of the Rings as well as Orlando Bloom and more. They were there on Sunday but we could only be there on Saturday so we missed seeing all of them. Maybe next year?
We left the Convention Center in search of actual edible and cheaper priced food and found a Taco Bell AND Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! Fun!
And then. We met them. Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny, AKA Dana Scully & Fox Mulder.
How it works is there are four or five different groups of fans with about 100-200 people in each group and you line up at a specific time and then when your time is called you get into another line. Eventually you reach a curtained room, put down your bag, walk into this room with the actors, pose, smile, (SNAP!), then you exit. You literally get 5 seconds with them total. For weeks leading up to this moment I thought about what to say and ask. I didn't realize the time would be so short. The second I stood by David I shouted at him, "This is my son, his name is Fox!" And I honestly can't remember what his verbatim reply was but I think it was something like, "That's cool!" LOL. Then the photographer said "SMILE!" and we did as we were asked. As we were walking away they yelled, "Wait wait wait, go back, we had a blinker." It was Jane. She was soooo embarrassed and kept saying, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" and sweet Gillian leaned over and told her over and over, in a British accent I might add, "It's okay, it's okay, it's okay!" Such a sweet moment.
This is what I posted on instagram because this definitely deserved a permanent spot on the grid:
The kids went shopping (these were definitely "their people") and found some neat (to them) stuff and then eventually we went into a panel with David & Gillian.
He's waving right at me!
The interviewer asked really dumb questions but it was still super cool to be in the presence of the actors from one of my most favorite shows ever.
This is why I fall asleep watching Friends every single night:
